What a waste of resources for such garbage. Where do i start with this... the fairytale scenes, the fake accents, the young true totally unrealistic hero, the stereotypes
wow just bad. Had i seen this in a cinema i would have asked for a refund.
I think any movie maker would have a hard time besting ANY of these WWI movies....
Paths of Glory (1957) with Kirk Douglas, Adolphe Menjou and George Macready as the general that orders suicidal attack on "The Anthill" (based on an actual disastrous French attack ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%A9raud_R%C3%A9veilhac) then tries to cover up his incompetence by accusing his troops of "cowardness"
All Quiet on the Western Front BOTH the 1930 original with Lew Ayres as Paul Baumer, Louis Wolheim as Kat and John Wray as Himmelstoss AND the 1979 TV remake with Richard Thomas as Paul, Ernest Borgnine as Kat and Ian Holm as Himmelstoss are excellent. supposedly, it's being re-made again with Harry Potter actor Danial Radcliffe in the Paul roll. hopefully they don't screw it up.
the Erich Maria Remarque novel is one of my "four books that should be required reading in high school". BOTH the book and the movie were SO powerful that they were BANNED in Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and even some "democracies"
you can throw in Sergeant York (1941) with Gary Cooper too. it's a pretty much true story and good entertainment BUT it's hardly "anti-war".
