Which 80's movie would you like to see remade and why...

Inspired by georugby's recent thread , just wondering which 80's movie you might like to see updated and why. The recent wave of horror remakes ("The Fog", "Prom Night", "Friday The 13th") clearly did not need to be, nor do the next batch slated for 2010-11 ("Top Gun", "The Karate Kid", "Tron").

I myself would like to see "The Outsiders" remade simply because the film didn't do the novel justice. That or "Caligula"...

Maximum Overdrive! This move was so awesomely bad. I think it has legitimate potential though.

Do I love this one!

There was a movie made inspired by the Stephen King short news called "Trucks" about ten years ago, who was supposed to be the "next" Maximum Overdrive.......never got there.

What I liked about Maximum Overdrive was the soundtrack, all AC/DC, and it's the only movie Stephen King made himself.  I'll pop in in the DVD this weekend, need a bit of nitro and this his the movie for it!  Classic!

Let It Ride (1989)
 
I always thought they should have done a sequel of what is probably maybe the greatest gambling comedy EVER with Trotter, Looney, Pam, Vicki and the rest of the crew going to Las Vegas for a football weekend. think it would have been a winner.
 
BUT Richard Dreyfuss, David Johansen Teri Garr and Jennifer Tilly  probably too lod for their parts 20 years later

or perhaps American Gigolo if done by Michael Mann and done well

I read the Fog, and it gives me a podium in which to say how overrated that I think Jon Carpenter and his movies are. It sucked in 80, and the remake sucked.

I just gazed through a list of a bunch from the 1980s, and it seems like the movies either sucked so badly that it was or would be criminal to remake them. ..............and the good ones back then, it seemed like they shouldn't be messed with and just left alone.....

Leaving the cult classics alone....best example I could think of might be "Drugstore Cowboy"

(NEVER leave hats on the bed)

I'd remake Thelma and Louise and shorten the flick to about 5 minutes long. Just have those two stupid bitches drive off the cliff at the beginning of the movie and do the movie industry a favor....and every guy that has had to hear really butt stupid girls say that it was remotely even watchable

I dont know if Weird Science would work nowadays... people know about computers

back then it was fun to say "hey i can make a hot women on my computer"

now the movie would consist of the guys going on the internet and wacking off or on craigslist and ordering hookers

Funny you should mention that...

"Word is that there are plans afoot to remake Weird Science, that ode to adolescent hormones and computer geekery directed by John Hughes. The remake will be penned by Johnny Rosenthal. Colors (Still relevant... unfortunately)
The Bonfire Of The Vanities (Great novel, terrible movie)
Some Kind Of Wonderful (The best of the John Hughes movies)
The War Of The Roses (One of the all time best!)
