four episodes starting @ 5:00 pm pacific time Saturday July 26th and repeating @ 9:00 pm. 1st is about the first use of tanks in battle, 2nd about the use of aircraft and airships. 3rd about the use of poison gas and finally 4th the use of submarines in naval warfare. should be interesting
btw, Monday July 28th is the 100th Anniversary of the start of "The Great War". WHAT was so "Great" about it, I don't know. the whole damn thing was pretty stupid IF you ask me

Thank you for this LeRinkRat i am going to check it out.
I can also recommend a little gem of a movie that aired on new zealand tv. It is called Field Punishment nr. 1
It is based on a real story, where New Zealand gov. sendt 14 of the most outspoken men who where against the war , to the Western Front, possibly hoping to shut them up by letting them be killed.
https://youtu.be/G0aEU7KFobA
On Australia tv there is also some first world series.
Anzag Girls starting August 10 https://youtu.be/G0g8MugDjHw
and The War that Changed us (August 19) https://youtu.be/NiVTDhE0NdY

I saw the first episode on tanks. At first it was a total disaster and almost scrapped the idea altogether. But a few smart men stuck with it and adapted. I learned a lot about tanks and thought it was interesting .

episode one had some EXCELLENT history that I did NOT know before watching. everyone knows that the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife in Sarajevo, Serbia June 28th, 1914 was the catalyst for WWI BUT almost as important was the subsequent assassination of the French anti-war Socialist Jean Jaures on July 31st, 1914. Jaures and his majority Social Democrats Party were strongly opposed to declaring war on Austria-Hungary and Germany even though the French had a mutual defense treaty with the Russians
turns out that IF France had NOT entered WWI, the whole mess could have been limited to just Austria-Hungary & Germany vs Russia & Serbia. unfortunately after Jaures murder the French militarists, who saw a war with Germany as a way to get back the Alsace-Lorraine region lost during the 1870-71 Franco-Prussian War, were able to get a declaration of war
Apocalypse: WWI is the BEST chronological history of the war I have seen so far on TV. it is a short and to the point"Cliff Notes" version with information I didn't know before
