was on one of the HD movie channels the other night and I thought it was an interesting "stylized" story about Jewish partisans operating against the NAZIs in Belarus during WWII. pretty good action and acting by Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber. pretty good action.
it's on again on the new EPIX channel again Friday Sept 3rd @ 2:45 pm pdt and Tuesday Sept 7th @ 7:00 pm pdt.

I liked it, definitely worth watching, but I thought it was going to be a little better.
definately agree. SOME good action and it's a compelling story BUT there are some scenes early on that just don't make sense like when Tuvia (Daniel Craig) shoots the local Belarus police chief and his two sons that murdered his family, he has one pistol and 4 bullets and he doesn't collect any weapons they have? it's obvious in the scene that the two sons have pistols and the police chief is probably armed too.
one very good historic point made in the film is that so many locals in German occupied Belarus collaborated with the NAZIs in hunting down and murdering person. before Hitler, Stalin's "Soviet Union" countries like Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania and Estonia were more notorious for their anti-semitism than any countries in the world. a lot of Americans think that the only people that murdered person during WWII were Germans.

was just paging thru the premium movie channels the other night and came upon a a movie called The Grey Zone with Steve Buscemi and Harvey Keitel. It is based on the book Auschwitz: A Doctor's Eyewitness Account written by Dr. Miklos Nyiszli.
a real downer of a movie BUT worth watching IF your a history buff. I'm suprised they got Harvey Keitel to play the notorious SS-Oberscharfuhrer Eric Muhsfeldt. the Poles should have gone medieval instead of just hanging him after the war.
