found an interesting "comparison" site of the three "lone stranger playing two gangs against each other" movies @ >>> https://h2g2.com/approved_entry/A1161271. question is WHICH one is YOUR favorite to watch?
Yojimbo the 1961 Akira Kurosawa classic staring Toshiro Mifune as Sanjuro the "ronin" (lone samurai with no lord or master) set in feudal Japan.
A Fistful of Dollars the 1964 Sergio Leone "spaghetti western" staring Clint Eastwood as "The Man with No Name" (aka "Joe") a gunfighter set in the "old west" near the Mexican border
Last Man Standing 1996 set in a Prohibition are Texas border town staring Bruce Willis as "John Smith" a lone gangster "gunsel"
although all three are excellent and Yojimbo is a Kurosawa classic, and I have to go with Last Man Standing because of it's "Oodles of Ordnance" and the supporting cast of Christopher Walken, Bruce Dern, David Patrick Kelly and William Sanderson (who is a VERY under-rated character actor). the "critics" @ Rotten Tomatoes disagree BUT I find it very entertaining, more so than the other two.

I like Last Man Standing a lot, but have not seen the other two.
There are some cool old samurai movies for sure.
The other day I was thinking about a movie where the plot is based on if Kublai Khan's fleet had made it to Japan and the ensuing battles. That would be pretty sweet.
It sounds like Japan would've been destroyed pretty easily because the feudal lords failure to cooperate. It'd be a cool story if they all united forces to take on the Mongol hordes.!!

I can understand NOT ever seeing Yojimbo BUT can NOT believe you have never seen the Sergio Leone "spaghetti western" trilogy Fistful of Dollar, Few Dollars More and Good, Bad and the Ugly with Clint Eastwood. seems like all three are on some movie channel at least once a month
the Akira Kurosawa classics of Rashomon (1950), Seven Samurai (1954), Throne of Blood (1957) and Yojimbo (1961) are definitely worth watching
as for Japanese "historic" movies. there is probably one out there about the Mongol invasions in the 13th century. I know the 2nd failed because a massive typhoon, the kamikaze (Japanese for "divine wind"), destroyed much of the invasion fleet. ref >>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongol_invasions_of_Japan

and wouldn't you know it, Ben Mankiewicz showed BOTH The Magnificent Seven AND The Seven Samurai on his Turner Classic Movies "The Essentials" series last night Sunday July 14th
