Foo Fighters is by far the best current rock band that is relevant today

I know this should stir up some comments... I hope it does.

Dave Grohl is a beast.  The drummer Taylor Hawkins is a beast.  The rest of the band are good musicians musicians, but just garnishments, admittedly.  But the real relevance here is that they write great music, and record and tour and put on a great show everywhere.  Their reach is very broad... they put hits on the radio and charts, but they also have awesome music that never makes the radio or charts.  

I challenge any contrasting opinions on all of the points I have made here.  If you have never dived into the last album Wasting Light (won best album Grammy 2013), you don't know this band or their music.

They have a new album due out this November 2014, with a new tour TBA

let's hear it.

Pop radio  b u l l s h i t  made to sell records.

If I was a boring, shallow, top 40 loving 22 yr old I would LOVE me some Foo!

But when bands like Kadavar and The Sword are dropping albums..And thrash and hardcore are making a comeback...There's not enough hours in the day to listen to the Foo Fukers.

In theory they should be great. Grohl's a legend, Hawkins is an incredible drummer, the rest of the band is capable to very good ... but it just doesn't translate to record for whatever reason. Outside of a few songs, they're just bland. They don't take chances and there's nothing dangerous or even remotely challenging about their brand of rock music. I'm not sure whether they're just not good writers or they purposely keep it boring to appeal to the masses. The best thing they've ever done was when they covered The Who for that Vh1 Honors special.

foo fighters are heavy metal for soccer moms. I can count on one hand how many songs i like of theirs. That being said, I will give them props for being prolific and playing long shows for their fans. And Grohl seems like a stand up dude. But they are wayyyyy over rated.

and then we had the guy in post #3 heralding the supposed comeback of thrash and hardcore. Apparently, we haven't solved the problem of tone deaf people as of now. Maybe one day...maybe.

I think those are GREAT ideas.  Coffins and condoms?  Get you coming or going and you can never have too many songs about proper nutrition and good eating habits.

ya know what, Sonic Boom was a good record and Monster was even better. Both were better than Psycho Circus.  When Glen Campbell can do a better and more interesting version of your song....says a lot.

Why is "heavier" better ? Why not enjoy music for the emotions that drive our lives, like love, humor, reflection, and maybe a touch of sarcasm ? Trust me, I'll listen to Kiss all day if it means not listening to even one song by AC/DC. But Foo Fighters have it going on for the everyday folks and not just the mindless, soulless losers who think "I Pledge Allegiance to the State of Rock n' Roll" is inspiring. I suppose if I were 13 years old in 1982 it may have been, but most people mature beyond that age...others don't.

     Couldn't of said it better myself, my friend. Kiss may have had a few "marginally" tolerable songs early on, I'll give you "Strutter", "Detroit Rock City", and even "Calling Dr. Love" is kind of a catchy, poppy tune. But for the most part they are just crap. They were/are a running bad joke that somehow gets a pass as a "classic" heavy metal band? I mean "Rock And Roll All NIte" is just insufferable, and just drones that line on and on and on...... "Beth" is lame, and what's-his-face the drummer can't sing for sh!t..... The aforementioned "Pledge"?..... "Disco"?..... "Love Gun"? "Lick It Up"? "Plaster Caster"???- Really Paul & Gene? How old were you guys when you created these? 12? - - and these are the HITS!?!?! - shows how dumb most rock "aficionados" are..... 

How about Gene Simmons was pushing 30 YEARS OLD when he wrote this:

They started off as a decent all encompassing live "musical" act much like a Rocky Horror Picture Show concert would be, turned into the WWF of rock, and now they're Big Pharma - just in it for the $$$$$ - yeah, REAL rock and roll......

So, comparing them to the Foo Fighters is like comparing a kobe steak to a pre frozen burger you get from AM/PM. It's like comparing Blue Fin Tuna sushi to fish sticks..... I'm hungry now....

Heavier is not necessarily better, I was just pointing out a previous posters comparison. And I agree that music should be enjoyed for whatever moves you. Even if it means getting laid or having a party on a Saturday night.

I will take your mindless soulless loser comment personally since I actually like I Pledge Allegiance To the State of Rock n Roll. At least I can tap my foot to it.  Perhaps you should visit a podiatrist.

Foo is like the biggest or second biggest rock band on the planet. You don't think they are making a $$$$?  Any band who says they are not doing it for the money ain't making any.  garbage, John Cale even said they were doing if for the money when the Velvets got back together. I'm a HUGE Velvet Underground fan by the way.

Hey if you like boring, forgettable riff based rock that goes no where, then Foo is your band. 

What's his face is Peter Criss and he probably has the best voice in KISS. Of course you know Beth for being the hit that it was.

As for Christine 16, it's one thing to sing about jailbait and it's another to actually abduct some. Jimmy Page, Ted Nugent anybody?  I will say that I find it odd when KISS includes it in their present day sets. 

Ol' Dave Grohly has a confession to make...he's a KISS fan.
