Exactly how I feel, SS.
It's like if I was forced to make a top 25 rap album list, how can I not put Illmatic? Nas is a legend and that was his first album. It was at the forefront of a tremendous explosion of raw east coast rap artists that changed the industry. It was lyrically amazing. BUT...At the same time, if I am stuck on a desert island for life and I can only bring one Nas album, it would be It Was Written.

Yeah dude, I thought it was pretty bad. I wasn't a fan of the beats, the guests, and Nas' retarded political message that overpowered several of the tracks. There were a couple standout tracks of course, but overall his weakest album(imo). And where the hell was L.E.S.? He has been peppering Nas tracks since Life's A Bitch, yet he was a no show.
My favorite Nas albums are It Was Written, I Am, and Stillmatic. Least favorite are Nastradamus, God's Son, and Untitled. Middle of the pack would be Hip Hop, Street's Discipile, and Illmatic.
Before Nas fans cream me for having Illmatic only in the "middle of the pack," let me say it is my own personal liking on the album. I certainly understand how important and groundbreaking that album was when it was released. I know how raw and real it was compared to a lot of the crap out back then. I don't know though. I just think that It Was Written equals it lyrically, sounds a lot better, and has more content(ill only 9 tracks; 8 if you add in that Halftime was released two years before the album).

i have been a big pac fan for over 10 years...what makes him so special is the truth behind most of his stories...sure biggies rhymes were better..but pac sacrificed his rhyming ability because his messages and stories were the most important thing to him.. His songs ranged from stories of poverty, drugs, sex, anger, hate, love, peace, racism and woman. In an interview he says that some call him a hypocrit because in one song hes preaching for peace and the next song he is killing someone, but he says that its just his raw emotion. Everyday your thoughts and feelings change and he expresses how he is feeling at the time. In a documentary on Shakur it interviewed White suburban fans of Shakur and asked what they liked about him. Most replied, “I can relate to him.” How can white people born in the suburbs relate to a man who was born in the ghetto? The reason they can is the emotions in his voice and how vividly he can tell his stories. His songs make you feel his pain and his happiness...the man was a lyrical machine..his cd "7 day theory" is called that because he wrote the entire cd in 7 days...now some people who dont listen to pac like his big fans may be like "hitter your an idiot the man only preached about violence" as i sed above..his emotions were raw and constantly changing..alot of his songs talk about women and respecting them and having pride in being black and of course there were his war songs..when he was pissed he was gunna let you know it....
and as for eminem..hes like a bettor picking the square play of the day..nobody wants to pick the square play of the day..eminem is very talented when he chooses to be..nas said it best in ether "Eminem murdered you on your own shit" think about it...even if you dont listen to eminems stuff...there are a lot of great rappers that he has been featured on..and whos verse is always the best???
