 It was released as the third single from the album.

 The song was written by Perry, Stargate, Sandy Vee and Ester Dean, and it was produced by Stargate and Sandy Vee.

  "Firework" is influenced by Jack Kerouac's novel, On the Road.

It peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Perry's sixth top ten single in the US.

 The song peaked at number three in the United Kingdom, where it has been certified silver for sales in excess of 200,000 copies

Katy Perry herself presented the song live for the first time in July 2010 in MTV World Stage 2010: Malaysia at the Sunway Lagoon Resort, Kuala Lumpur which was attended by over 15,000 fans all over Asia, as well as Singapore's Singfest 2010 Concert. Perry performed the song at the 2010 Teen Choice Awards. The song became Katy Perry's third number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and her second consecutive number-one single.
