My daughter was listening to Paramore a few years ago when they first started out pre mainstream, she always hijacked the radio while in the car. She had some great live acoustic versions on her iPod.
She actually got me into a lot of the different independent artists the past couple of years, some who have since became somewhat successful.

No, it's nothing ground-breaking........but compared to most of the other crap that people try to pass off as music these days it's pretty good..........more than just a steady beat with a dead-ass vocalist. Like I said, I'd take this over anything from Arcade Fire..........I seriously don't get the attraction to that band. I've never seen a band do so little with so many "musicians".

I fully realize I sound like an old fart for saying this, but the era of great (rock) music is dead. If it is not rap or pop, it just does not sell anymore. Sorry to break it to you, but if it's not commercially viable, it's dead. As stated in a previous thread, I have loaded my two boys' ipod with over 200 albums of classic rock, metal, and more from the 70's, 80's, and 90's. My boys are 11 and 13 years old and they LOVE it. They still like some of the new stuff on the radio, and they should... it's their era. But true frontiers of rock seems to be dead.
I don't give up so easily though. I have 7th row tickets for Nickleback at Rupp Arena for this Friday. This will be my second concert of Nickleback. They are the only feature act that IMO really produces quality rock music, on a grand headliner scale. I would include Metallica in that group, but they seem to be almost retired at this point. Don't even talk to me about the has-been that occasionally tour like Stones, Aerosmith, etc... they mailed it in years ago.

I almost shed a tear a few weeks ago when my oldest son told me he really got turned onto GnR some random Saturday morning when he crawled into my bed while I was sleeping... the clock radio clicked on and he listened to Sweet Chil'omine by GNR and he realized how great they were. He was maybe 6 years old then. It's amazing the things you remember.

Mainstream music is in the toilet... Shouldnt judge this era of music based on what they shove down your throat on tv or radio... There are still a lot of cool bands out there... You have to "stumble upon them"...
