Was Jimmy Hendrix the best guitarist?

Thoughts.. who was/is the best guitarist to play and make music in our time?

Was Hendrix the best?, or just the one who was most orginal in regards to style, composition and generel attitude in his day (60 ties)

Little Wing

It's a matter of taste.  It's like saying which is the best food or the best beer.  The answers are completely subjective.  Hendrix was great and Little Wing is one of my favorite Hendrix songs.

I dont know why but to me it sounds like Hendrix's guitar play is more crisp than newer guys. Maybe Santriani about the same level but not to many others.

Who knows how different music would have turned out had he not been killed by his manager, i mean choked on his own vomit.

Hendrix was ahead of his time...............can't be considered best of all time by default...........but he was revolutionary.

Jimi was a great guitarist and way ahead of his time, so he gets major props for that.  To say anyone is the greatest of all time in music is a dumb argument, since that comes down to a variety of factors and tastes.  Hendrix's mastery of the electric guitar and his contribution to rock is highly respected. 

Asking this question is like asking "Is pepperoni the best pizza?"

Actually, the right-handed guitar was not strung right-handed (which would have meant Hendrix, being a lefty, was playing it upside down which he was not), it was strung left-handed

Look at all the vids of him on youtube.  The low e-string is where it should be - on top.

He did this to get a crisper sound out of the low strings while the higher strings sounded more mellow because the frets affected the sting opposite of what they would if the guitar were strung properly and being played right-handed.

hendrix was the babe ruth of guitarist, that is he did stuff that most weren't doing at the time in that aspect he could be considered the greatest even though e just look great & revolutionary for his time.

I love little Wing, but the guitarist (jazz guy, I can't recall his name)   did a better version of the guitar solo than Hendrix on Sting's second solo album. I have a stupid number of versions of Little Wing.

Guitarists like Clapton, Ray Vaughn, etc......No one is going to attempt to tackle that classic without knowing already that they are great.......



(I'll come up with that jazz guitarist on Sting's second solo album. For that album , he literally put together an all star cast of Jazz musicians......My concussion is affecting my memory, so all I can remember is Branford Marsalis, but there was every bit of 5 other top top Jazz guys in his band. I saw them live. Put chills in my spine. Sting and the Jazz guys doing "King Of Pain" was amazing....."Lazarus Heart" as well.....
