Yeah the trick is NEVER go for a missed opportunity. If LBJ goes off for 40points tonight then don't go and bet for him to do it tomorrow. Sometimes you will get lucky but most times if you are witnessing something happen then it won't be happening again in 2 minutes after you've placed your bet.

Basically you missed that opportunity, don't chase it but it's counter intuitive to do that so some people fall into the trap of trying to grab for it and boom you take a big hit.
