Game: Wizards @ Sixers Time: Wednesday 7:05 EST 1/5/10

Back in 1993, Midway released what is arguably the best one-on-one fighting game of all-time: Mortal Kombat II.
What made this game distinct from any previous game in the fighting genre was the fact you could add embarrassment to a defeated opponent through what was called a "Fatality". Specifically, you finished him/her, that is, killed him/her in a humiliating manner.
The Fatalities were both comical and brilliant and elicited laughter through any crowd gathered by the game, leaving the defeated opponent to sulk towards the back of the line at an attempt to compete once again.

Men, in particular, live vicariously through video games to release aggression. Historically, we are warmongers and have found even the subtlest, most insignificant reason to engage in combat.
Well, what happened to the Sixers in the two previous match-ups with the Wizards is basketball's equivalent to that dejected, defeated Mortal Kombat player who moped to the back of the line only to wait another 1/2 hour to get a shot at redeeming himself.
This game coming up for the Sixers against the Wizards is War....
I truly believe they had it circled on their calendars since the last debacle occurred on 11/24/10. It is not another regular season game.
I was fortunate enough to have had a room at an Atlantic City casino that night and was able to watch everything unfold...prompting this very thread...
I was watching that game and was tempted to go to the poker tables, but something felt amiss...something made me feel like that game would not play out in your usual free-throw shooting contest in the final minute. So I stayed. And I watched the following:
The Sixers lead for every minute after the 5:35 mark of the first quarter with a workmanlike performance.
Everything was going smoothly and the game got out of hand when they took a 15 point lead, 90-75 with 8:59 left to play in the 4th quarter.
Only the Sixers could find a way to lose this game. They were playing too well up till that point. Only they could offer the Wizards something that could motivate them, as Washington had clearly thrown in the towel.
And motivate them they did. With 3:30 left to play and an 11pt lead, Elton Brand committed a flagrant 2 on JaVale McGee which when all was said and done, turned that 11pt lead into a 6 pt lead and got Elton Brand ejected.
From there the Sixers regrouped and had a 5 pt lead with 28 seconds left to play...
FT's FT's FT's and then Evan Turner had a chance to ice the game up 106-103 with 7 seconds...
He misses both...
And what happens?
John Wall gets FOULED ON A HALF-COURT HEAVE and nails ALL THREE FREE THROWS. A cardinal sin in even a JV game and probably had Doug Collins barfing over the back of the scorers table.
Obviously, given their frame of mind at that point the Sixers blew it in OT and lost 114-116.
It's all right here: Link
So this is just a revenge game off a brutal loss right?
Wrong.
