Multiple things can be true about someone or something at the same time.
Doncic is fat based on today's modern era and standards of what professional athletes physique looks like, however the same could be said about Jokic and Embiid.
Doncic is arguably a top 5 player in today's modern era NBA based on how the game has evolved.
Doncic knows he's a superstar, plays up the Diva attitude and whines to the refs constantly, but so have all the greats in the game,,,working the refs throughout a game is an art form as most goats have always done in the past, like Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, Bird, etc.
Doncic is a traditional hardcore European and doesn’t give two shits about North American standards for what he should physically look like as compared to the Jimmy Butler's or Kahwi Leonard's of the world,,,love his comfort food and beer...he's never going to rock a 6 pack and be able to play basketball as he does, and he couldn't care less...within 5 years of him retiring, yes I believe he will be pushing 275 lbs of chunkiness with a hint of diabetes and cardiovascular system concerns if he doesn't stay active and live a healthy lifestyle based on exercise and nutrition.
The guy has generational wealth based on talent, not appearance.
On the downside, him being athletically fat has always kept him from being at his best come playoffs because his stamina after a regular season will typically be compromised. If anything, he should be limited to 70 games a season and practic load management come February March and April so he's in peak form for round 1.
Yet, the Mavs roster has never been stellar with supporting talent to help him get to the finals...still he was able to singlehandedly get Dallas to the WCF a few years ago, so there is no doubt he's got the ability to make a deep run in the playoffs.
People have hate for the greats in any sport...it's just the way it is. Fandom comes with the inherit right to like or dislike anyone who plays a sport...heros and villains is part of the tapestry of professional sports, and that's a big part to why we love this game/sport.
And let's not forget Doncic is super young, and his best days are still ahead of him, hopefully he stays healthy and lives up to his full potential as a basketball player...rare these days a single player is worth the price of admission to go watch,,,Luka is one of these rare players worth the money to see play in person.
Appreciate or hate, pick a side and enjoy the series...I still think Mavs win in 6 or 7...take away that mind boggling 8pt 2Q, Dallas could have easily stolen game 1.
Coach Kidd has to do better than how he did today, and the real question is can he be? Lue is no genius, but his chops as a coach far outweighs Kidd's at this moment.
