Are you really supposed to only bet around 1-2% of your bankroll per game?
Let's say you're starting with 5k. That means you would only be betting around 50 -100 per game.
Should you really be this conservative with your betting?
Thoughts?

Yes, I personally would be that conservative. If you want to increase your wager to build a bankroll faster 3 percent is as high I would go. If you find yourself not making a profit revert back to the one percent rule. Some guys on here play small/medium large etc. Some claim they are making multi unit wagers. (each unit amounting to 1 percent) They may be successful at using those strategies. You will find you will like some games more than others however, as a rule you should play the same amount for each event. It doesn't make any sense to win one game at 50 and lose another at 75. You have picked 50 percent winners and lost more than the vig. I would limit parlays as well. ( at least until you have a large bank roll at a minimum) It doesn't make sense to lose one game and win another, pick 50 percent winners and lose the entire unit. You may wish to play both events straight and spend a half unit or half of a percent on the parlay. Alternatively, if you are new, it's easier to practice without actually betting until you have some confidence and get familiar with what your strengths and weaknesses may be (if any) or, until you decide what event or event types you want to concentrate on. Money management is the key. The idea is to make the initial deposit and then make only withdrawals going forward. Using the 1 percent a rule, if you can pick winners, leaves room for possible losing streaks without breaking the bank. There are a lot of good handicappers here. It is unknown how good they are at money management and discipline. It's half the game. You can do it but, it takes work and patience.

It’s up to you really and what you really want to try to achieve in this industry. Some just like betting with small amounts and having money on a game they are watching and others like to really make money out of it. It’s a grind though, need strict discipline and yes, 1-2% is often the amount you would bet on each game but you might bet several games per day. Some might bet 3% each play to build their bankroll up to a desired amount and then lower to 1-2%. It really all comes down to your discipline, bankroll management plan and what you want to achieve

@AussieDownUnder
Conservative money management leads to conservative play. Over time you may bet less, win a larger percentage and over time increase your bank roll at a faster rate. Aussies style of play (at least his posts here ) reflect that style and his recent success has been on display here. If you chose to monitor a poster he would be on my short list but there are others.

Agree with others on here and will offer that it depends.
1) Is that 5k all there will ever be, or do you have more if needed? If there is more, be more aggressive. If not, stay the course.
2) If you are a heavy volume player 6-10+ games a day, consider playing 1 unit per day divided by your plays.
Streaks and the risk of ruin are very real, especially with sloppy capping. BOL.

NO...You will be grinding yourself to death...Yes you will not lose it all right away and it will last you a long time but it will become a grind and boring...
I am in the boat of pushing especially when you are hot...If my bankroll was $5K and I like a game a lot..I will push 2-3K on it..no risk no reward..
When I start with a BR of $5K..My goal would be to get it to $10K-$15K in couple of days...Then I WD $10K in BTC and start back with $5K rinse and repeat..

Or...get really excited for 1 play, make multiple max wagers on the play as it cannot lose, clear out the account on it, get stupid drunk and watch that play fail miserably from the opening tip with no chance of ever winning the entire night, go into a deep depression wondering why, wake up hungover and broke, take a few days off reload the account and repeat

I agree with Dave on this one. If you do a 50 bet then you will have to have over 100 wins to double your money.
A progression is a much better thing for me at least but it all depends on your personality.
A progression of 1-2-2-3-5-7-10 nets 30 units and a flat bet rate of 1 unit nets 7 units in the seven win streak. The only place you couldn't pull a profit would be on the 1st 2 and you would lose 1 unit. If you lose start at 1 unit again until you win then go 2 then if you win 2 again, 3,5,etc..

In my personal opinion, betting 2-3% is the ideal way. Having discipline in maintaining that 2-3% is hard especially if you're on a hot streak, you just wanna bet more. And that's what happened to me, been on a hot streak and bet half of my bankroll then lose. Now i got to build that bankroll up again.
And no, i don't have a huge bankroll to begin with so the aggression of betting large units is very hard to resist. Discipline is the key

I got myself in a early mess by not following bankroll management. Got myself out of that mess by not following bankroll management.
I need more discipline.
Bol to to you

1-2% is NOT conservative, you'd be at high risk to bust your account at some point in your life. I've been a + bettor each of the past 4 years and would've been very close to going broke on multiple occasions had I been betting 2% per game.
If you can afford to lose your bankroll then its fine to take a shot and run it up. I did that myself my early years and got lucky, but as soon as you have real money to play with anything under a 100 unit bankroll is just a matter of time until its blown up.

I use 1-5%. I update my stakes daily to make it more interesting. If my bankroll goes higher, then I increase my stakes, if it goes lower on the next day, then my stakes stays the same.

I size my bets as 1u = 2% of bankroll, and my max bet even if i think it's 99% to win on a pk bet is 10u.
I don't press because I don't see it as free rolling book money. Once I've won, it's my fucking money so I don't go donking it off on coinflips. I build my bankroll consistently by applying my edge over large notional volumes. My bet size grows naturally as my bank roll grows.
I size by units based on my perceived edge on the bet. -110 bets require 52.4% hit rate to breakeven. If i think the bet is 60% to in i have 7.6% edge. A spreadsheet helps until you intuitively know what your edge is every bet.
I size accordingly:
3-5% edge =1u
5-8% = 2u
8-11% = 3u
11-15% = 4u
add 1u for every additional 5%. On pk bets you max out at 50% = 10u

also since this is in the NBA forum, know where and what your edge is. NBA regular season is notorious to having one of the highest vegas hold %. rigged as shit.
I absolutely crush college football and NFL, and do well in NBA playoffs and march madness. But I am a loser in regular season NBA and baseball over several seasons so I know to rarely bet the shit that I'm not good at.

@Klaista22
You should bet everything everytime...if you lose, sell a Rolex or ask Grandma for a short term loan...that's what the true winners here claim to do
Do you have a Corolla? That will come in handy when Grandma finally says no
