 It means he's risking 550 'units' to win 500 'units' and 600 to win 500.    This depends on the odds of the wager.  A 'unit' might be a dollar for one person and $10 for another depending on their bankroll.

Most wagers are bet 11 units to win 10.    If it is a more likely winner it might be 12 units to win 10 or whatever.    

He keeps an honest record of his picks.   So he tracks  wins and losses and Total units won and loss.    For bets he likes more he will risk more units.
