What are thoughts on the suspension? I'm guessing the last regular season game and first playoff game. Does he get 1 game and fine to keep him in playoffs? Some early angles on the Bucks and how they relate to the Eastern Conference I'm looking at:
No rhythm
The Bucks have not found their rhythm since returning to the bubble. They have gone 3-4. Wins against Bos, Mia, and Wsh. The win against Bos was the first of the bubble with Kemba on a 19 min playing restriction and a night Tatum would like to forget shooting a miserable 2-18. While an important win the Bucks did not build momentum like we are seeing with other teams right now in the East off it, (Boston, Mia, Tor, all have performed better in the bubble and coming into playoffs hotter).
Assuming there is a suspension for last reg season game this will be the third game in a row he has missed (he played half yesterday b4 being ejected). We have seen other teams trying to ramp up their teams into playoffs mode now, like Boston yesterday against Mem, they left their starters in the 4th being up double digits. Budenholzer won't be able to do this now making this somewhat of a meaningless game but who knows what the minutes or rotation will look like. Teams have traditionally taken it easy in the last game in preparation for the playoffs but in bubble ball you never know.
Gift from the Gods
Is this a gift from the NBA gods to Memphis? Toronto with their d-league squad just beat Mil w/o Giannis. This could be another loss going into the playoffs. Yes I know Memphis have been losing but it has been to literal top competition that is gearing up into champion contender form (Toronto, Boston, Milwaukee to end the season is as hard as you can make it for them). This desperate team could break through like we saw Toronto did with their athleticism over skill line-up which Memphis is full of.
Another loss going into playoffs is not the direction any team plans on going.
Orlando upset gm 1?
This Orlando team core has been together for a few years now and made their first playoff experience last year against Toronto. When all healthy and together they show great chemistry and defense but struggle against top competition. Ranked 5 in PPG defense and have a record of 9-18 against opponents over .500 and 22-13 against opponents under .500.
The key to beating Milwaukee is to defend the 3 and clamp down on Giannis making him a mid range player (easier said then done). But there may be another avenue to victory. I've believed for a long time Brook Lopez has been playing much higher than his expected projections the last 2 seasons. His resurgence with a 3 point game is somewhat of a mystery but I'll give him credit for being a reason of their teams success. Over the last 5 games he is performing terribly from range shooting a 27% from 3's.
If Vucevic can get into All-star mode he can exploit this match-up against Lopez and keep him running all around the floor. Lopez is a slug in the new NBA creating openings for cuts in the lane and Vucevic to get open off screens for 3. The ball needs to run through Vucevic and the wing players need to be pushing Giannis out of the paint.
Milwaukee has played well without Giannis before (they are number 1 seed for a reason) but game 1 is up for grabs in my opinion if he suspended.
Also important to note they have not played each other since February although Milwaukee had their number in all 4 meetings this year. That was pre-bubble Milwaukee though.
Value on Boston/Tor Eastern Conference
Toronto 4:1, Boston 6:1
I have units on both of these bets and see more value in them now then ever. It seems the media has all but ensured us Milwaukee will be in the finals, “they will be fine in the playoffs”, but when you do a deeper analysis you can see some red flags. In the bubble I have both these teams ranked higher than Mil currently.
