When he first came into the league, I think Carmelo was every bit as good as LeBron James. However, it became apparent after a few years that whereas LeBron kept working to improve his game and bettering his teammates, Carmelo only cared about putting up his offensive numbers, and was not concerned about wins or losses.
Carmelo was not happy in Denver, when they had a solid team for most of his later years there, especially with Billups manning the point, and Nene, Kenyon Martin, and Birdman underneath.
Even though they were consistently winning in the regular season, Carmelo had to make sure he consistently helped Karl blow in the post-season, with his lazy, selfish play.
And in New York, even though Lin was a fairly slow, average point guard, they were having fun and more importantly, winning ball games. But being the POS that he is, Carmelo could not stand that another player was stealing the spotlight.

Im not a Melo fan but he's had knee problems this year and a report came out that he needs surgery to correct it. Melo is signed for the next 4 years at max money and the Knicks have the worst record in the league trying to show your "toughness" in this situation is pointless Melo needs all the help he can get and having more ping pong balls puts the Knicks in a much better position going forward. What if Melo continues to play and the Knicks win a couple of more meaningless games and he tears up his banged up knee near the end of the season and the Knicks settle for the 4th or 5th pick? Shutting it down and having the surgery while the knicks keep there hopes for the number 1 pick is the correct decision.

You can't win in the NBA on your own you need good teammates and a better coach then Fisher. Is Phil Jackson going to get Melo the players he needs so the Knicks can be competitive? I mean ffs who is the 2nd best player on the Knicks Calderon? The Knicks need to bring in guys that can make the Knicks relevant. It is not Melos fault that the Knicks suck.

Exactly. Sure he could take less money to MAYBE allow for the team to sign other players .....but why should he? He is easily one of the best scorers to ever play the game. Unfortunately, he's been in a couple shitty situations. If he wanted to solely have an opportunity to contend for a title he should have chosen Chicago and he was very close in doing so....
I think he saw the possibility of a bright future unded phil and its still possible but he must get help. Melo also loves nyc and is most likely thinking about life after basketball.... And im pretty sure he has desires to go into film production.

Never been a fan of Melo. People that think hes one of the best scorers ever are out of their mind. Hes always tops 1-2 in shots per 36 min and has only shot above 46% once. Dude is a ball hog who plays absolutely zero defense
