He CRIED when he was traded? This is an implication he was so broken up about it, he couldn't control his emotions.
He goes on to say the following:
"I was really a part of that city," Paul said. "I honestly can't say one negative thing about the city. If it were not for the city of New Orleans, I'm not who I am now. They just embrace you as family."
Yeah, sure. These comments might have something to do with the fact the All-Star game is IN NEW ORLEANS, the home of your ex-team.
Any basketball fan worth their weight in salt will easily recall Paul did everything necessary behind closed doors to force the Hornets hand to trade him short of pulling an Omer Asik in Houston or a Carson Palmer in Cincy.
Why?
Lebron got to make his "Decision" leaving Cleveland high and dry with NO ASSETS in return for the greatest player of the twenty-first century.
Carmelo got to force Denver to trade him to the Knicks and ironically, Denver is much better off.
Paul saw two of the biggest stars get what they wanted and then he got what he wanted as the best PG in the league.
Dwight pulled the same act for almost a year and half before he got what he wanted and was sent to Houston.
Now Paul says he cried. Now Paul says he isn't who he is now if not for New Orleans, except of course he wanted no part of the city before they traded him.
Don't patronize basketball fans with 3 brain cells CP3. We remember the deal.
The best thing the fans can do to tell him they remember is boo. Lebron gets booed in Cleveland. Melo gets booed in Denver. Dwight in Orlando. Boo this guy in New Orleans. They wanted him desperately and he wanted no part of them. He should be reminded of this every time he touches the ball on Sunday on a national stage.
Cried? . Yeah you cried. Except they were tears of joy....

And ESPN, the ones that ran this story on their front page yesterday should have some journalistic integrity and offering an opposing viewpoint to put his comments in perspective, instead of just quoting him sheepishly...

Lets not forget as great as he is he folds like a cheap suit come playoff time. He's gotten out of the first round once in his entire career. His time as a Clipper has been nothing but a disappointment. Nobody gets a free pass around the league like him. Anybody else would have gotten ripped at this point for all of his failures in the playoffs. But I guess if you're a nice guy to the media and smile........

Yeah it's a joke Scal.

you can be the one who wanted to leave and break up with your girlfriend, and still feel sad and cry about it afterwards. Just because you wanted to leave, doesn't necessarily mean it's because you hated it. Sometimes, you just have to do what you have to do.

He definitely gets a pass.
I think this year will be different for him in the playoffs. The Clippers are on another level this year of course, health is always a concern for this team and will continue to be. Without a healthy Blake, they can forget it.

Well your girlfriend wasn't willing to pay you $100+ million to stay with her as an occupation.
This is not a personal relationship, this is a job. Look at where the Hornets have gone since he left, Anthony Davis notwithstanding.
I really would have wanted him on the Lakers had Stern not voided that trade,, because without Kobe and this roster, the Lakers get swept as an eighth seed adding to Paul's playoff futility. Of course, Dwight would have stayed if Paul was there so it's losing as a 6th seed in the first round instead.

Hey I remember last year's playoffs when clippers faced off with grizzles, I watched every game, boy did Chris Paul choke in most of the series. And I agree, he does get a pass for being blamed. But when the lights get bright and the stage is bigger he did shy away, he avg. way below season avg, and his turnovers were ridiculous. He is the Andy Dalton of the NBA.

scalabrine,in the name of transparency i must admit that paul is my favourite player of the current crop so i must say that i do speak from a position of bias......but i really dont think you are cutting the dude enuff slack in this instance.whilst it is always impossible to judge a professional athletes true character without knowing them and only seeing the image projected by the publicity machine,i do believe that everything about chris paul that we see and hear indicates that he is a genuine, honest, quality human being without malicious intent or agenda..as i say ya never can tell really but that is the impression one gets in interviews and articles and such..would you agree or not??......so in saying that i think it reasonable to take him on his word, take him on face value when he says he has a deep bond with the city of new orleans...ya gotta understand that as a hi level competitor who burns deeply to compete for and win a championship he,as many other players also, finds himself conflicted if he is in a position where his team and management/administration is not doing enuff to help put him in that position...he stuck around that place for a lot of years, producing at an all-star level year in and year and and always helping a moderately talented team over-achieve but never, ever having the horses to seriously contend for a title..i believe he did all he could and contributed all he could but for a dude that so desperately wants to win it just wasnt working being in that situation.
so anyhow i dont dispute for a second that he forced the hand of those responsible for determining where he ends up playing, but in the end he found himself just betwixt and between, liking the place he had given so much to BUT also burning to get on a team that could accomplish sumthing significant before he retired.....in the end it is a bizness, there is no loyalty in sport EITHER WAY,from management to players nor vice versa.but as much as someone can feel a bond to a sporting organisation i gic-ve this cat the benefit of the doubt when he speaks of this connection...just because his ambition made him feel he had to leave does not mean he did not form incredibly tight bonds and relationships with team-mates,coaches,trainers,staff and fans in that place over a number of years.and that time spent doesnt just get erased from ones memory.wat makes you think that the guy has such a mercenary,cold-hearted approach to the situation??he doesnt have any form in that regard does he??
just to extend the analogy suggested earlier i think it was a girlfriend he really, really liked(maybe even loved),but somehow in the back of his mind couldnt see himself spending the rest of his life(career)with her cos he knew there was just sumthing missing, sumthing that she couldnt give him.so he made the tough decision to move on
