If you follow and bet the NBA every single day of the season like I do, you notice the bizarre happenings that can potentially happen on any given night. But this particular game takes the cake if you noticed what happened Fri night in Memphis.
First of all, whoever had the Under in Cha/Mem like I did made an absolutely brilliant call and we could not have been anymore right. Just so, so painful with how the ending of this game played out:
-Grizz are up 90-87 with about 40 seconds left and MARC GASOL and his 86% FT SHOOTING going to the line... he misses BOTH... at HOME (Someone want to see if that's ever happened with Gasol? Probably not considering how cool he always is under pressure)
-Hornets get the rebound and take it down the court. From, no exaggeration, THREE FEET BEHIND THE 3-PT LINE, Gary Neal is fouled by arguably the best defender in the entire National Basketball Association, Tony Allen. Let me repeat that: Bench player and mediocre outside shooter Gary Neal is fouled from welllllll behind the 3-pt line by arguably THE BEST DEFENDER IN THE NBA. Of course makes all three FTs.
-Grizz score on the ensuing possession with Gasol to go up 92-90 with like 10 secs left.
-Hornets (I think Kemba) try a three on the final possession - NOT EVEN TRYING TO FORCE OVERTIME - he misses, one tip misses (Aren't the Grizzlies a top three defensive rebounding team in the NBA?!?!?) before a second weird tip from relatively far out (With backspin, as noted by the announcers) by Gerald Henderson ties it at the buzzer 92-92.
You cannot make this garbage up. I will go on record of saying this was probably the worst bad beat of the year (Even above that infamous Kings/Mavericks over from a little earlier in the season that "lost" by a pt). Go through that entire sequence of plays again and tell me this under "loss" was not the worst bad beat of the 2014-15 NBA season thus far.
Truly unbelievable. No other words to describe it - except maybe "supernatural" for how that fluke series of events of played out. I would estimate the percentage for that exact precise timeline to play out the way it did would eaaaasilyyy be below 1%. Period. A historic bad beat indeed.

no Grizzlies are notorious for going into OT. I remember last year against OKC they had 4 overtime games in one series. I can't think of another team that goes into OT more than Memphis.

Interesting point. But read the sequence of events and tell me that isn't supernatural.
Marc Gasol, 86% FT shooter, missing both free throws that would have made it a two-possession game.
Tony Allen, arguably the general consensus best defensive player in the Western Conference (The only thing he's known for and useful for), fouling a garbage outside shooter like Gary Neal... from four-feet behind the three-point line.
The Hornets tried a THREE on their last shot, meaning they weren't even playing for OT!!!!! Then a missed tip in! Then a weird backspin tip-in from several feet away by Gerald Henderson that had no business going in (And this against one of the best defensive rebounding teams of the past FIVE YEARS).
Supernatural. All of those things happening as isolated incidents probably have less than a 5% chance of happening (Watch, especially, the final possession of regulation). So for ALL of them to happen consecutively in the final 40 seconds of regulation? Worst Bad Beat of the Year, clearly.

I got creamed on this sequence of tough events. Had a winning day if this panned out. Oh well. It SHOULD have been the right play if not for strange circumstances. Congrats to those that got lucky on the over

It especially sucks because anyone who knows totals knows this was a GRAVE MISTAKE on Vegas' part to leave a freaking Hornets/Grizzlies over/under as high as 193/194... that's just lazy, lazy work on their part; there's no way this matchup, in a haven for unders no less like Memphis, should've been that high. I pounded it overnight because it was basically inevitable that they'd lower the line, and I'm not rewarded for being all over this game in correct fashion.
Good to see most people agree. Worst Bad Beat of the Season thus far.

Since he left San Antonio he has been. And this year he's shooting like 34% from three, which may even be below mediocre.
Overall, at this stage in his career and the amount of regression he's shown since leaving the Spurs, it's safe to declare that he has become not only a mediocre shooter, but a mediocre player overall as well.
By the way, his attempt was from three or four feet behind the three-pt line -- and against the best defender in the West, Tony Allen.
Still can't believe how all those events played out. The play-by-play doesn't even fully do it justice if you watched these last 40 seconds.
