People get more dedicated to important things to them in life as they age. When he was younger he was probably doing a lot more partying than he does now. I'd say he commits to training 100% more than when he was 25.
Also.. I believe the general size of NBA players has declined in recent times. It's easier for big bodied guys to bust through now that so many teams are lightweights. Look at Durant FFS, skinny stick Lebron just knocks over. With Bogut on the Warriors a couple of years ago, Lebron's driving dunks would have come to a screeching halt.

he was always a freak athlete though. It's more about his mental ability these days as he seems to have gotten over the hurdle which prevented him from truly becoming a top 5 talent of all time. He's the complete package now.
Probably no longer has a 45 inch vertical leap or runs the 100 yard dash in 4.6 seconds but his natural athleticism would still match any young kid in the NBA today.

for his height and weight, I don't think there's ever been an equal. Chamberlain was primary about wingspan and but early LeBron could have competed in an assortment of Olympic events if he set his mind to that sporting field.
Jordan in his prime was like no other but he was roughly 3 inches shorter and 36lb lighter

Soon 33 will be the new 28 with the way technology and science has progressed. The elite athletes are so well looked after. Every meal is carefully planned to give exactly whats needed. You can tell by looking at some of the athletes like LBJ still at /near the top of their game in their 30s. Ronaldo/Froome/Federer etc..
