(Maybe not the best time for this, with everybody focused on the one game, but got to get this out here)
Hey, have you noticed the new Scores and Matchups format? The new format is currently in use
in NBA, WNBA, NFL, NCAAF and NCAAB. It is not currently in use in MLB and NHL, and
hopefully never will be. There are several differences between the new and the old format. The
ones I am keying on here are ones I see as pretty major and relate to user friendliness and straight
out usefulness to the sports bettor.
The changes I’m referring to, each and every one of which come up as a negative for the new
format are as follows:
1) Home and away ATS splits
Hey, isn’t it useful sometimes, when looking at a matchup, to know what the home team’s
home ATS record is, and the road team’s road ATS is as well? On the old format, prior to the
start of the game, it was right there for you to see, right on the Scores and Matchups lead page
for the appropriate day. Once the game started, the information could be found directly on the
“matchup” link. On the new format, this data is nowhere to be found, pregame, during the game,
or post-game.
2) Box scores for games in progress
With the old format, when a game is in progress, and you want to see the scores by quarters,
the box score is as accessible as it could be, right there on the Scores and Martchups lead page.
With this new format, you either have to go to the boxscore link, or open up the bet graph and try
to figure it out from that.
3) Line History
When you want look at a game’s line history on the old format, there was a link, “line
movement”, again, right on the Scores and Matchups lead page, where you could click on it and
it takes you right to the line history. Now, with the new format, when you’re on the lead page,
you need to click on “matchup”, then from there click on “odds”, and from there click on “[team
A vs. Team B] line history”. Or you can click on “boxscore”, and then click on “full line
movement”, but this option is only available for in-progress or completed games, not for
upcoming games. Two or three clicks with the new format, instead of one with the old format.
Nothing like clicking once to get to what you need, instead of fumbling around.
4) Totals projections for an in-progress game
With the old format, again, right on the Scores and Matchups lead page, you can find, to one
side of the boxscore (on the left, if the home team is currently covering, or on the right if it’s the
road team currently covering) a full game total projection based on the current score. Nice
feature for totals bettors, or if you’re trying to gauge the pace of the game. On the new format, no
totals projection anywhere to be found.
I don’t know what precipitated the format change, but, for the reasons above, and maybe also
for reasons I haven’t spotted, it is clearly a change for the worse, with the new format being far
less useful and user friendly than the old one. Do you disagree with this assessment? Many of
you probably share the same distaste for this new format that I do. Maybe there are issues, other
than those I mentioned, which you encountered with the new format. LET’S HEAR ABOUT
THEM.
Make your clamor heard, Covers members, and hopefully we can get the old format restored.
