LOW POST: My GOM: Blazers @ Rockets
Tonight is my strongest game of January... and I have actually had this game circled for a while.
I like to write up strong plays when a combination of trends, travel, match-ups and value all arrive at the same time and point in the same direction. I feel very confident we have all the starts aligned with the Rockets at home.
The situation for the Blazers is a tough one, since they are playing the final leg of the terrible three day Texas trip. This is their third game in 4 nights, but played the other two Texas teams (Dallas and San Antonio on back to back nights) and have to obviously travel in between. This Texas trio has always been a disaster for road teams as the state of Texas geographically makes for difficult commuting. To make matters more "grayish" for the Blazers, the have another game tomorrow night at OKC... so all these games mushed together makes for a very challenging coaching spot as to the delegation of playing time to Blazer players..when is too early to mail it in with a game the next night? Because of Portland’s remote location, their schedule includes19 back-to-back games this season. They just had 5 in the month of December.
In addition to Portland losing 14 of 17 road match-ups in this series since the Rockets moved toToyota Canter, the Trail Blazers are 2-7-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Houston.
Dwight Howard has historically had his way with the the Blazers Howard is averaging 30.5 points and 15 rebounds in 2 games vs the Trail Blazers in this season.
I have the line at Houston -4.5, but the oddsmakers seem to be using -2.5 since this is a national TV game with the public on the Blazers. I was actually surprised this game wasn’t a “pick” with how much love the public seems to have for the Blazers in this one…
The smart money backs the Rockets!
Rockets -2.5 GOM
Good Luck!.
