First I would like to say, I have been on this forum for years, but i do not post too often. Very rare for me to post.
Ok so what do we know?
Spurs are 3 games ahead of OKC to win first seed with fours games to go and can control seeding.
OKC needs to win ALL four games to clinch. (one of them is Indiana). Indiana and Miami are heck and heck for 1st seed in the east. OKC will probably not risk playing hard against against Indiana because Westbrook is Injury prone.
Conclusion? pretty much spurs win 1st seed, OKC wins 2nd seed. We saw a very cut playoff match yesterday (OKC vs CLIPPERS) of course they are fighting for 2nd and 3rd seed, only reason both team actually played.
Spurs games left @Dallas (can control seeding) vs Suns (can control seeding) @Houston (Will rest players, meaningless game) vs Lakers (Will rest players, meaningless game most likely win)
Seedings (games highlighted in bold are tough) Dallas 7th (1g ahead )3 games spurs, memphis, suns Suns 8th (1g behind) 4 games spurs, dallas, memphis, kings Memphis is 9th (2g behind) 4 games Phil, laker, suns, memphis
Dallas, Suns, and memphis all play each other.
So what does this say? Spurs have an opportunity to control seeding for first round of playoff.
The spurs DO NOT want to play MEMPHIS. This team knocked them off first round in 2011 playoff. Memphis is also healthy!
Spurs will either want to play Dallas or Phoenix. How? they lose to Dallas and Phoenix and not let memphis in 8th seed.
Also if they lose to Dallas, they have a better chance to play phoenix in the 8th seed. Spurs have beaten won every game against Dallas, Suns, and Memphis, except on 2/11 they lost against Spurs, (Parker was not playing)
Remember Spurs vs Memphis? The line was -7. Spurs did not really have to win this game but they beat them 112-92! They do not like MEMPHIS!!
Dallas has more experience and they are recent NBA champs. Let Dallas have 7th seed and they might upset 2nd seed thunder.
Phoenix is a young inexperience playoff team. Who would you rather play?
Play of the year!
Dallas -2 (10 units) Dallas 1h (3 units)

Very interesting theory, and Dallas has a good chance to win, but I'm not buying the fact that the Spurs don't want to see Memphis.
The Spurs don't fear Memphis. They got beat a couple of years ago and since then they've "solved" Memphis, as they've been destroying (and I mean destroying) them. Now would they prefer to play the Suns, maybe, but certainly not Dallas with the long history/rivalry they have. What if they lose to Dallas now (giving Dallas some confidence) and end up playing them as the 8th seed anyway?

The spurs would LOVE to see Memphis -- a team they swept and continually swept even last week shorthanded -- also Spurs don't tank games -- Pop doesn't do that -- sorry man but I think the Spurs are the play tonight -- a bad match up for Dallas, and it sets up those three teams to determine their own playoff spot -- the Spurs could care 2 doinks about who they get first round and are probably most afraid of the Suns who have nothing to lose

The biggest thing I can see in your favor is this:
The Spurs do seem to have things wrapped up, even if they lose the next 2. Lakers are tanking and the Rockets are locked into that 4th spot, so the Spurs don't really have to worry about losing either of those games (if they end up needing them).
On the other hand, however, why not take care of business now, and let your team stay sharp for a bit a longer and shut it down after this weekend?

I'll say this, a veterean team like the Spurs with one of the best coaches of all time doesn't care who they face in the playoffs. They especially don't care to face a Memphis team there 4-0 against in the regular season. It doesn't matter what Memphis did to them in the playoffs a few years ago, this is the greatest coach of the NBA, if anything he'll want to play them to avenge that loss. The Spurs players and there coaches aren't afraid of anyone, there Championship contenders. Them losing on purpose to face a certain team in the first round is absurd
Just my 2 cents

Spurs should be resting Ginobli or Parker as well. The are a older veteran team, why not give them all the rest they can get? Also they play Phoenix at home next game too. I can see them resting their star players. How many times have we seen the big 3 not 100%?

Exactly. That's just not a championship attitude. Now resting guys, etc...that's a different angle and one I'm not too sure about.

Getting the vibe you're not very up to speed with how the spurs do things, it doesn't matter who plays for them. They run a system, and Pop demands execution. If a player doesn't execute his plan he simply puts in a guy who will. The system and coaching is so good that as long as the players on the bench are worthy of wearing an NBA jersey they will succeed on the Spurs. Teams like Dallas and most others need Dirk and Monta to play great, the Spurs do not. They can beat you with any 5 guys on their team, they do it all the time. Parker or Ginobli out in a regular season game really doesn't matter.

Spurs have figured out how to play the grizzlies. they are deeper and have more shooting since that first round loss to the grizz. also recall they relied very heavily on manu at that time, and ginobili got hurt late in the season and and missed game 1, which memphis won. home teams won the rest of games that series.
since then, spurs have developed splitter into a reliable big man next to duncan ( which they didnt have then), added danny green, lenoard, belenili and developed mills, all of which reduces dependence on manu.
the spurs dont care who they play in the first round. they will beat suns, mavs or grizz all in 4 or 5 games.
while the mavs might win tonight, its definitely not because you think "the spurs dont want to play the grizzlies".

The best thing I can say about the Mavs right now is that they appear to be engaged mentally. They just went 4-0 on a road trip and beat the Clippers and 3 teams they were supposed to beat. They appear fully focused which is all you can ask for, the Spurs are pretty much permanently focused.

Spurs win this game rather easily for a myriad of reasons, some of which are explained above, some of which is common sense in regards to anyone who knows how Pop and Spurs do things...Spurs win running away from a Mavs team that plays some of the worst D I have seen in recent memory....108-94...GLTA.
