My sources (for those who know me around here, you know my sources have always been accurate) tell me no DAVID WEST, no TYSON CHANDLER and no HILTON ARMSTRONG. All three will not play tonight.

NEW ORLEANS FRONT LINE TONIGHT:

MELVIN ELY
SEAN MARKS
RYAN BOWEN
they may add a 10 day contract to join the team this afternoon who won't know any plays

Say what you want about New Jersey, but they are 10-8 on the road and they are coming off three games against Boston, Portland and Boston.

If you haven't noticed, Brooke Lopez has been OUTSTANDING his last four games averaging 22.3 ppg and 9.3 rebounds.

No lock, no guarantee....anything can happen in one game, but this is my biggest play of the season. New Orleans is shorthanded playing their 5th game in 8 days and 6th game in 10 days.

The public doesn't know it, but Hilton Armstrong will also miss tonight's game. This line will close at 3.5 is my guess.

I am adding another unit.

NEW JERSEY +5 (1 UNIT)....that's a total of 4 units on the game for me.

It is now officially my largest Play of the Year in any sport.....not just the NBA.....GH is getting nervous!

I can always re-evaluate at halftime.

Im going with you, also like the nets, enough team to win SU at least to be close on tonights game; My best pick is Washinghton+3, any opinion? Good Luck GameHunter

U couldn't have a game with two more erratic teams...Wash had a great comeback win over the Knicks Saturday and then sh$# the bed in the 4th quarter against GS on Monday afternoon....I lean to Washington, but don't think I will pull the trigger. GL.

Isn't Devin Harris questionable?

It's not like Paul, Peja, Posey, and the other guards can't carve through NJ.

I know, bad game but I really like the wizards to get the win; I  have new jersey +4.5 in my book! shett its better +5-6, reminds me when the cavs faced the hornets last week, thats the only reason Im still waiting for a better line but I will play new jersey, so lets hope a good night for us

There are no guarantees in life. All I know is you have a team that has played a lot of games the past 10 days that has no inside presence. West is a huge loss. Chandler is a big loss. Armstrong further compounds the problem. NJ's achilles heel has been against team with strong front lines. There's nothing wrong with New Jersey's 1-2-3 positional play. Devin Harris may not be Chris Paul, but he is an all-star quality PG averaging 22+ ppg and 6.5 assists. Vince Carter is still an all-star quality wing. With Brooke Lopez stepping us his game now and the Nets playing better on the road, there is value in the Nets tonight. The Hornets are missing 83.5 minutes per game on their front line tonight without West, Chandler and Armstrong. The replacements are Ely who plays 11.5 mins, Bowen who plays 9 minutes and Marks who plays 8.5 and all three are limited offensively. Julian Wright will also have to play more and switch to the four spot and he plays just 8.5 minutes per game. I just don't see how the Hornets will have good chemistry tonight.

Peja and Posey don't carve up anybody.  The stand in the corner  as they patiently wait for Chris Paul to work his magic and pass them the ball so they can jack up a three.  And that's why this team struggles, because they are so reliant on Chris Paul to get everyone the ball.  Nobody else on this team can get their own shot off.  God forbid if Chris Paul ever did get hurt this team would be a complete mess.  And like GH stated their bench is horrific.  Supposedly Jannero Pargo might be coming back from Russia though.

As I mentioned above, I was at their Christmas day game when they had no Peja and Chandler was playing through an injury. The team stands around a lot an relies too heavily on Chris Paul to make things happen but at times Paul tends to pound the ball deep into the 24 second clock if he can't create his own opportunity. He is an elite player but he needs other options. Peja is a spot up shooter who doesn't beat anyone off the dribble. Posey and Peteron are also spot up shooters who don't create a lot off the dribble. David West is a terrific and creative scorer who is a great jump shooter and can score inside. Without his presence, the Hornets will become completely reliant on the perimeter and will not have the interior defense to keep the Nets away from the basket.

Brook Lopez has been outstanding lately and the Hornets will be missing shot blocking and rebounding tonight.

As I stated, this is one game and it's not like I feel the Nets are 95% (there's no such thing) to cover this game but there are distinct advantages for the Nets and Hilton Armstrong's absence and it's compunding effect in light of West and Chandler being out, is not yet reflected in the line. It's like blackjack. I have 19 and the dealer has 16 and I am very confidnet in my bet, but the dealer can still beat me but I like my chances.

Harris had his ribs x-rayed yesterday as a precaution and it came back fine and he is expected in the starting lineup tonight.

Gl GH, been following your picks/opinions for about 2 years--especially baseball, you went on a crazy run, up like 100 units like 2 years ago--much respect.  

Anyway, just starting to post.  After reading your post, i'm considering a strong play on the Nets.  My book has +4.5, would you consider going large at this number.  Thanks in advance.

At 4.5, I would play it a lot smaller, but would play it.

The rest of the Hornets remind one of Shawn Marion - elevated play in the presence of a premier point guard, but average-at-best if left to their own devices...  West et al ought to be giving a cut of their salaries to Paul for making them look good much in the same way that Marion has suffered since he departed Phoenix for Miami and is lost without the compass that Steve Nash provided.

They really won't be scaring top tier contenders come playoff time when defenses get ratcheted up and Paul gets doubled teamed (and switching off becomes more emphatically pronounced and executed).
