That's what Houston is facing tomorrow night, on national TV. I am not a Rockets fan or a Harden fan but this game intrigues me from a psychological standpoint. The Clippers own Harden (he has been average at best against them) and he knows it. From what I've been reading, he is very focused on preparing for this game. Whether or not that translates into a win or a great performance remains to be seen. It's not easy to pinpoint why the Clippers have dominated the Rockets but they have.
What makes this matchup so intriguing (from a capping standpoint) is that the game, for the Clippers, is sandwiched in-between games against a team (Memphis) that owns them. The Rockets were beaten by the Clippers before the all-star break and the Clippers were just beaten by the Grizz the other night in a game that they almost won on sheer will. But they didn't win, as Paul had the ball taken away from him in the final seconds. Once again, the Clippers came up short and now face the prospect of losing to Memphis for a 3rd time this season if they fail again on Friday.
I think the Clippers will have to be extremely focused tomorrow night to beat a team that they've owned (and that will be extremely focused/motivated to beat the Clippers) while trying to not look-ahead to playing a team that has owned them. The most recent example of this I can think of comes from the NFL. The Niners lost to Seattle (a team that owns them) at home, then had to play the Raiders (a team that was easy to overlook) before playing again at Seattle. And we all know what happened to the Niners.

BTW, I did not make a selection because I welcome anyone to talk me out of this bet. I find this Clippers team to be a giant enigma and fear touching them.

motivationally its all layed out there for the rockets to get vengeance...playing at home they will not welcome the prospect of losing 2 straight to these clippers whilst they are missing their best player/mvp blake griffin...that is kinda embarrassing on top of hardens continued ineptitude in the series and the team losing streak......my gut says rockets will play like it means a whole lot more to them and should get it done...but its really a volatile one to stay away from from an investing point of view, clippers are balling out of their minds, playing free and confident like they been unshackled and have nothing to lose and all the bums in the reserve corp all of a sudden discovered legitimate nba skills they aint shown all year...funny how that happens when the need arises....ive been very surprised by wat theyve done since blake went down and it makes me hesitant to go against them.
as for the reasons for dominance the one glaring aspect i would think is the significant advantage in frontcourt with griffin/jordan having their way in terms of size, athleticism and skill over the pretty weak frontlines houston has had in recent seasons....but overall it is surprising looking at the rosters of each that one would roll over the other so easily.

Big Baby cost me in that Spurs game and D Jordan thinks he is Bill Russell all of a sudden while JJ does his best impersonation of Danny Ainge. If Harden can get D Jordan in foul trouble early (by driving to the Basket) I think that will help a lot.

to me it comes down to a couple of things... I like Houston here because like the comment above said, rockets gotta play for vengeance, take this as a playoff game and they have court advantage... another thing, cp3 and dj are playing so good lately game after game after game, could this be the letdown game? i mean, u get almost the same production from cp3 in assists + pts, and dj rebounds, but houston is a lil different. harden plays a 30+ pt game and the next he is so erratic, up and downs with houston, it is very tough to make a decision here but i would go with rockets... homefloor, and motivational game, and possible let down game for clips

yep, strange things are stoked out of the fires of necessity all rite...just watch, soon as blake comes back they'll all go back to being the "all scrub" pine-riders theyve shown themselves to be(crawford aside)...i mean, good fu.ken grief austin rivers went for 28 the other nite,W......T........FFFFF!!???

agree with the over...clippers have shown they have absolutely no choice without blake to initiate the offense but to look for early offense and push the pace, take quick looks if they present themselves and try and be first to 100....and houston will gladly oblige/accomodate them...if houston is hitting on the many threes expected it shud sail over

from what ive read the plan for the rockets is to not settle for 3s but push the pace and attack the basket.
even better for the over then...higher % shots closer to the rim and more free throw attempts they would hope....they better do sumthing to get deandre jordan out the game then, thats sum serious over-sized rim protection rite there....this is where harden comes into it,with his euro(x5) step and his herky-jerky old-man game and pump fakes...seems clear he will try and attack jordan in sum way.take him out the game and thats a huge component missing for the clips....shot-blocker,shot changer, finisher, hustle play guy,rebounder...and tho clearly offensively challenged he will be counted on to try and contribute 20 or so points with griffin out.

i feel as though the clippers are just a bad matchup for the rockets, just like the grizz are a bad matchup for the clippers. no blake for clips but no dwight for rockets either. redick plays surprisingly good defense on harden without fouling and cp3 has ways of dissecting even the stingiest defenses. tread carefully with rockets

Respect your effort, BB but it would seem you have taken the mantle from Scal.
Long drawn out write-ups that lose more than they win. Guilty of over-thinking much ?
I know the picks (with the longer write-ups) have lost and no one has been harder on me than me but as you look at them I only feel one of them was a bad bet (and that was only in terms of the units bet). The NBA is difficult to cap and motivation is king (especially when one player taking the night off can derail everything). Looking back at my recent picks, my teams all showed up and played extremely hard but lost anyway.
Hawks vs GS Klay and Curry combine for almost 60 points and Draymond Green gets 20 boards (down by 3 with 5 to go). Hawks bench hits 7-8 3s and gets 37 free throws.
Clippers vs Spurs: Spurs up by 9 late in the 3rd even though Leonard is 1-11. Parker plays one of his best games of the year as does Duncan. Pop wants the win so bad that he grinds the game to a halt for what seems like hours. Meanwhile, Big Baby has one of his best games in years. Big baby? You gotta be kidding me. And the game goes down to the wire.
Blazers vs Grizz: Aldridge is a very late scratch and the Blazers are still up by 13 (at home) in the 4th but find a way to lose.
I know, it sucks. Winning is all that counts but you gotta admit that these teams all showed up in a big way, even though they lost. That's my consolation for you (and me).
I think the Rockets certainly will show up tonight. Will they win? No guarantees.

Everyone and their mother on the over. Plus if this motivation angle holds true then we can undoubtedly expect a super tight defensive game am I right? I'm contemplating the under

My rule is I rarely don't play on and against the Clippers because they always stick me.Its hard not to take the Clippers getting 3.5 points when they have simply dominated this series.I saw their entire last meeting and Clips dominated them 2nd half.Seems like the Clippers have more value.

The Clippers are the better team, have the better coach, and have dominated the Rockets. This is purely a situational play, as mentioned in my initial post. I expect max effort from the Rockets against a Clippers team that is super-confident (not fearing the Rockets in any way, shape or form) and possibly looking ahead.
