So after the obvious #1 selection in Karl-Anthony Towns...there should have been mass mayhem from there on out...except I don't think anyone notified the NBA owners/GMs.
#2 Lakers - Ok, so I get the fact that because of the level of guard play in the Western Conference you could shy away from Okafor. But is Kobe really going to allow this Russell kid to handle the ball every trip down the court? For a team that ranked 29th in points allowed...Russell probably isn't going to help that.
#3 Sixers - Apparently the lineup of Embiid, Noel, and Okafor is going to work great? It's a guard league, and the Sixers have zero
#4 Knicks - So we are in the biggest city in the world...all the bright lights and media pressure and if you have one bad game we will be on top of you like flies on shlt...so lets draft a Latvian 7 footer that might become something. Andrea Bargnani 2.0
#7 Nuggets - We already have a driving point guard who can put up points and create his own shot...let's draft a driving point guard who can create his own shot.
#16 Celtics - We are going to move Marcus Smart...we are going to make a godfather offer to the Sixers if Okafor is available...we are going to be very active in moves. Or...we are going to draft 3 more guards to go along with Thomas, Bradley, Turner, Crowder, Smart, Young
Nobody made moves....once again the NBA stands for

#2 Okafor is a bad defender. He would not help their defense. Who should they have picked then, Cauley-Stein with the second pick? Really? There werent really any good defensive choices except for Towns in the top so I dont understand what you are saying. Kobe Is probably gonna have his last season next year. The Lakers were not drafting for the next year, they were drafting for the next 10 years.
#3The Sixers had one player they wanted and that was Russell. With the Lakers taking him they went with the best talent on board. The only guard that was in play was Mudiay who the Sixers did not think very highly of. Who should they have picked then in your mind?
#7 Nuggets If you have read any NBA news in the last few weeks then you know that Lawson is as good as gone and everybody knows they are trying to get rid of him. Now they got a new franchise point guard that was projected to go in the top 5 with the 7. pick. I think that is ideal for the Nuggets.

Celts tried and failed at their trade attempts... They will, I'm sure, make some moves this offseason. Hopefully good ones... They have a plethora of guards so they better make moves.

Phily had to take okafor, he is a stud. I know they have too many bigs but who else could they have taken? Okafor especially with embiid hurt again couldn't be passed over.

Lakers drastically needed a point guard. Kobe's going to run that team whether its a point guard or a center that's being drafted. At his age he is going to need talented young legs to help facilitate the offense. Russell is a solid defender and good in transition. Lakers will pick up a good big in free agency.

There is a huge difference beteween the Lakers and the 76ers as a franchise. Los Angeles needs to produce and they knew what they needed. I believe they made the right decision is taking Russell and passing on Okafur. I liked Okafur in college but although he was only a freshman he was a man amongst boys. I just don't see him doing the same thing in the NBA. He's definitely a step up but I thing with him going to Philly this is looking like a player potentially suffering from the Andrew Bynum curse.

Another reason why lakers didn't take okafor is because okafor and randle will clog up the lane too much on offense. Neither one of those players spreads the floor. In addition, lakers are pursuing a center/pf all-star caliber player in free agency. They are confident they can land one.

First of all, no one knows who will be a good pick now. These players are all young, some will stop working hard, some will work even harder, etc.
Lakers - they want a player that can help right away. They should be able to sign a big in free agency. A big usually takes a few years to develop. Also, with all the elite PGs out west, the Lakers really needed a PG that can run with them.
Knicks - the Latvian is 7 foot, may still be growing, and he can run. Presumably he has good fundamentals because he is European. IE, exactly the player the Knicks don't have and need if they want to play fundamental, Phil jackson type basketball.
Sixers - pick doesn't make a lot of sense, but nothing the Sixers have done lately makes sense. probably a case of taking the best player available
Nuggets - maybe they are drafting his replacement?
Celts - they have too many draft picks than they can use. I'd be shocked if they didn't make some trades as soon as some of the big name free agents start signing

Gotta agree. Phil doesn't like Melo one bit. I don't know who would trade for Anthony though even if Anthony did demand a trade.
Prior to his re-signing, Melo was thinking of going to the Lakers. Now DWade is considering the same. Could you imagine Melo, DWade, Kobe and the new acquisition Russell on the same team?
