Agree with you a bit.......it depends on how you look at it.   The league is much bigger, stronger, and faster now.    There def was more good shooters back then.   The flopping and whining has always been there.    I actually disagree with the selfishness.    Most of the good teams now are very unselfish.   Example spurs and heat in finals.   Spurs def unselfish and lebron is probably most unselfish superstar to ever play when on the court

I don&#x27;t remember the constant flopping. I recall lots of whining, but these guys flop ever other possession and to me it degrades them to have to act to get a call.

Rodman was one of the originators of the flop.....he would even taunt and laugh about it on the way back down court.

I hate flopping but its part of the game. If you take the contact without falling down the ref 99% will call defensive foul even if defender is in legal guarding position. So the defensive player kinda has to flop to draw the charge. They need to clean it up but not sure how to do it. I actually hate the offensive flop more than when they do it on D. When harden, parker, ginobli drive in and flail all over the place like they got ganged banged it drives me nuts.

Definitely much better now. Defense has tremendously improved and any team has an actual shot of becoming good (except maybe for some teams you can count with your hands).

Yeah flopping has always been there. Players are just smarter now. You know how people try to always go over/beyond the rules just to sell it or get any advantage.

I think games before are say "manly" or is played with a lot of machismo. You really can see players trying to over power each other.

CMM,I follow your picks daily because you do a great job and not too many here are reliable. But I have to respectfully disagree. The NBA is diluted with too many teams, and so a team like Miami is able to win a championship. I don&#x27;t think the Heat could have beaten most of the title teams of the 80s or 90s.

The NBA needs to contract. Eliminating lets just say, 4 teams, would drastically improve the league. Part of what you see are the long term affects of the expansion in the early 90's. There are still plenty of guys that do not belong on NBA rosters right now. The flip side of that is International players are now in the mix, and sooner than later I think they will catch up and the league will once again be more talented.

We are better off than we were from lets say 1995-2004. When guys like DuJuan Wagner, Darius Miles, and Stromile Swift were the future.

I&#x27;m probably being too harsh and I know sometimes players seem to magically get better with time. Let&#x27;s take Dr. Julius Erving for example. How would he do in today&#x27;s NBA? Is there a better pure shooter in the league today than Larry Bird? What about Magic, is there a better passer in the league than Magic or John Stockton? And where does Kareem fit in. Could these guy stop his almost automatic sky hook. The list goes on. I agree there might be more physicality, but I don&#x27;t think they are automatically better just because they can jump a little higher or run  a little faster. The NBA stars of the past, in my opinion, played a better brand of basketball.

Do you think Larry bird could create shots against these players now....lebron is right up there as a passer right now......you are taking the cream of the crop then......plus you have to look at it the other way....it sure would be interesting watching stocking guard westbrook Paul Rondo and rose.   Plus its the secondary players like Craig ehlos and byron  Russells of the league that were legitimate starters back then on strong teams and how weak they would be now

Your perception is very ignorant and uninformed. You, my friend, have no clue about the game of basketball. It&#x27;s Stockton and not Stocktin, at least get the name right before you make a comment. Your view as many young, selfish, immature imbeciles only surrounds on what a player can do 1 on 1 or what his athletic ability is. A PG is not suppose to be a scorer or a dunker. No one in todays league could match Stockton, because he would come off the screen and destroy you every time. A strength in a PG is not his athletic ability, its how smart his decisions are ! Other then Curry, Stockton would be the best and purest shooting PG in the NBA today. He mastered every most important skill set in PG position and would be irreplaceable in any era of NBA.He also never missed games and never had major injuries. Its a direct result of his brain and his style of play. There was never a risk he would blow his knees on stupid athletic plays.Tons of reliability and value for your team. Explore 100% of your 4 teammates athletic abilities over 100% of your own. Thats what numnuts like yourself will never understand. Go buy your new D.Rose shoes and think you know the world. I rest my case.

I am very informed and am not young...i watched him play......he was a great passer and shooter......the problem is people like you are to stupid to realize that athleticism is a huge factor in basketball. have you not ever played at the Y. it does matter....when someone is 3/4 inches bigger than you, stronger than you, and faster than you it is difficult to do anything against them. You are completely lost in the world if you think it does not matter....sorry i spelled his name wrong......i was not trying to worry about grammar and spelling with my post. Are last 2 comments is the sad truth as to why people just don't get it.

I guess your gonna say that art monk was a better wr than Calvin Johnson as well

The best of the best always get better in all sports over time.....somebody with even better physical tools than lebron is coming...don't know when...but it will happen.

There is no point in arguing here...John Stockton, 1st in assists, 1st in steals. No one will even come close to these records. Not the most athletic point guard, but is the best up to date in that position. And he would be even better today, because he would have better athletes surrounding him daaaaaaa....
