So many thoughts...where do I begin. I'll begin with addressing the topic of this thread. It is difficult for me to fathom what Kerr and his staff were thinking in deciding to sit Thompson in game 3 (essentially conceding the game) and then letting Curry empty his tank in a game they had only a slim chance of pulling out. It really boggles the mind. Had he just allowed Curry to get a good workout in (playing him half the game), even letting the Raptors blow them out, and then going all in in game 4, which was less than 48 hours away, I'd understand. Instead, Kerr made the worst possible decision of all. He sat Thompson (thereby wasting Curry's efforts by giving him no help) and forced Curry to empty the tank in a certain losing effort.
The reason I was so confident about the Warriors winning game 4 is because I was sure Kerr new something we didn't (i.e., that Durant and Looney were both coming back), otherwise what kind of a moron would let his best player go out there and play 1 on 5 for over 40 minutes, especially as the guy is jump shooter (so he needs his legs) and is slight of build: Curry is not built like LBJ or a Jordan, and his game is completely different. They talk about Kerr being an intellectual but has the guy ever read Sun Tzu's The Art of War?! In essence, Kerr tried to win the battle (i.e., game 3, with diminished troops) thereby sinking his chances to win the war. Hell, if he had just been an avid tennis watcher, he would have seen countless times a player tanks a set (because he knows himself and the opponent well enough to know he does not have enough in him to take that particular set, either due to injury or fatigue) in order to 1) preserve himself for the all important final set and 2) lull his opponent into false sense of security. And this strategy works more often than not. What does not work, however, is hedging your bets by going half in in all games played.
And there are so many more things to complain about regarding Kerr:
1) Playing Cousins in game 4 after his performance in game 3, and then finally having to bench him.
2) Sticking to his stupid rotations and pulling Thompson (who is the only guy scoring) out in the 3rd quarter with the Warriors clinging to a 2 point lead with a little over 4 minutes left. The rest is history.
3) Playing mind games with his own team (instead of the opponent) by constantly dangling Durant in front of them as a savior when he himself doesn't know what the hell is going on.
Let's just say if Kerr, instead of being an All-American, laid back liberal, "intellectual" white dude, had been a black Methodist preacher coach, with little formal education, he would be crucified by the mainstream media and figuratively lynched for his decisions.
Regarding game 5, the only way the Warriors have a chance in hell is 1) The powers that be want this series extended because of Durant's return in game 5, and all the drama/revenue that will create and/or the Raptors lay an absolute egg. Otherwise, the Raptors should be the play here.
If, by miracle, the Warriors win this game, they will absolutely blow the Raptors out in game 6 in Oracle. You don't even have to think about that one. I would rate that bet a 9 out of 10. The Raptors are not going back to Oracle and winning.

So if there is a game 6, the W's will show no mercy? I can't blame Golden State fans for acting so entitled after winning the DECADE, but this isn't your year.
Give it up BB.

Did I not say the Raptors are the play in game 5? But they will not win a game 6 if, by miracle, we get there.
This goes to game 7....Dubs win game 5....Miss too many shots in game 5 especially Curry had a horrible game offensively and defensively ...And I will give props to Raptors for making all those 3's in the 2nd half....Not sure how many times Curry left Danny green wide open trying to help out...

Therein lies the problem, Dave. I'll use my response to you to more so respond to BB.
BB, these guys are human beings. You don't force a guy to go if it can potentially harm him in the long run. I think the decision to sit Klay probably was above even Steve Kerrs pay grade. The ownership group may not be sure about KD's future but they've been pretty adament that they are sure of Klay's future. Klay has been a tank over the course of his career. You don't jeopardize his durability. And more specifically, you don't open a brand new, very expensive, privately funded arena with now two injury prone splash brothers. Likewise, as a coach, you don't tank a guy in a playoff game that you are competing in. Even when you know your chances of winning are slim and that you could be potentially jeopardizing "the War". Talk about being crucified. Bench Steph early in game 3 and see what happens.
The Warriors' do have a problem. And it can be blamed on the coaches. And the GM. And it's something that i've always known existed yet never realized how much of an issue it was until now. The Raptors' have made it glaring, and not so much with their defense. With their offense.
Golden State is one of few teams, if not the only, and definitely the only playoff team, that regularly puts a lineup all the floor with multiple players who are not scoring options. Even Philadelphia's Ben Simmons, who is criticized for being a guard who can't shoot, is still expected to score. He needs to develope a shot but for now he scores around the basket. Now let's look at this Raptor team. Every man can get a bucket. Their three bigs all routinely hit 3s. And Gasol and Ibaka, specifically, aren't Joel Embiid types content to hang out at the 3pt line. They are bangers in there for defense but they can get a bucket. The Warriors on the other end, are a team built around three prolific scorers who are expected to do the bulk of the scoring. And this is deeply flawed. This is not "strength in numbers"........

Dubs roster for this season was built with the purpose of having KD/Curry/Klay top 3 scoring options...They do not need any additional Scorers/Shooters with those 3 in the lineup...They also gave Cousins the Mid Level exception.. So now with KD out and Cousins Injured with no legs/lift/conditioning of course they have no one on their bench who can score. They weren't anticipating these injures. That is $40 million not contributing. It is what it is and that's the hand the Dubs were dealt. A perfectly healthy team and they this series easily. If you want to say the injuries are the problem than so be it. But they do no have a problem with a healthy team. They were capped out to sign anyone else.

This didn't start this series, and it didn't start with KD. It's deeply rooted in this run. Andrew Bogut was never asked to score much. And this was fine. It was a novelty. The idea being that in theory, this team should score enough for him to not need to score. Just protect the rim. Anchor the paint. At the time, Draymond was still a viable scoring option. This was always destined to fade though. You can blame KD but that fact is his shot is too broken to be a wing scorer. He's too short and unathletic to be a post scorer. Draymond's strength is his mind. So he became a facilitator and defensive specialist. And this was fine. Then you had aging key reserves Iguodala and Livingston. Iguodala has not been a primary scorer in quite some time and never with the Warriors. He's another high IQ ball handler, a defensive specialist with an iffy jumpshot. It's hot and cold at best. In the Hampton 5 line up, his role is akin to Draymond's. Facilitate the offense and play defense. He's not expected to score much. This is not the Hampton's 5 lineup though. He is playing KDs position in a traditional lineup. He has to score. In game 4 he had 3 points on 1-7 shooting. And sadly, the lack of attempts is more alarming than the lack of makes. And Livingston got old in the off season. It was bad enough that he was a guard that refused to shoot 3pt shots (look up his attempts). This used to be mitigated by a short to mud-range jumper that was near automatic. Old legs shoot flat shots though. And while he was OK in game 5, he has not been a consistant scoring option.

Kerr obviously thought he would have klay, looney and kd back for game 4 and drop an atomic bomb on the raptors. Sadly, kd didnt suit up, and they simply didnt have enough weapons... I guess this explains his decision to let curry pad his stats on g3

So what could've been done differently? Under their current salary structure, not much. They could've resigned Javale Mcgee instead of taking a flyer on Boogie Cousins....as a rehab project....for twice the money. Boogie helped them win one playoff game and has been an embarrassment in the rest. He's look slow and out of shape. And clumsy. He can barely get his arms over his head.
They could've gave Swag a one-year contract. He's been literally on the couch and would've offered both points off the bench and a starter for Klay in game 3. They could've tried harder to retain Patrick McCaw, who is now languishing in Toronto.
They could've better prepared their youth and empowered them instead of relying on aging veterans afraid to shoot. Go back and watch game 3. Watch guys pass the ball back and forth like a hot potato. Iggy and Livingston are literally afraid to shoot. Look at the footage. Look at their shot attemps for games 3 and 4.
As far as the Raptors defense, they are really good but they haven't done anything special. Double the primary scores. When the Warriors double, the open man hits the shot. Gasol, Ibaka, Siakam, Van Vleet....Danny Green! When Toronto doubles, the open man either bricks or is afraid to shoot. Depth was the knock on this team before the season started and now that lack if depth had come home to roost.

Exactly. I think he miscalculated in a bad way, was given bad info, or Durant surprised everyone by deciding not to play. But they are all damning. Either he is an idiot, a dupe, or does not have the pulse of his team/players.

Stu, your analysis of the Warriors shortcomings are spot on. I have no quibble there except to say Kerr was not able to talk up the few bench guys who can shoot for this series the way he was able to do in the previous series. Maybe he should have spent more time doing that than worrying about Durant coming back. And that I do blame him for. As far as his decision to leave Curry out there to play 1 on 5, and it was really 1 on 5, he made a big mistake, regardless of his intentions. He gets paid to make unpopular decisions that are in the best interest of his team. He already made one in keeping Thompson out, so why stop half-way? Because he is a coward. And did not want the heat.

I think he has stopped developing and preparing players, BB. You have called him lazy and maybe that was it. The lineups he has fielded have been lazy. Boogie: I have this image of him throwing his hands up and saying, "Well, we brought him here to play. He's a star. He has to play." Livingston: "Well he's been here. He's earned it. He starts!" Nevermind he's old. He doesn't shoot 3s and his midrange has gone flat. Sanz KD, i'm now convinced that Toronto is the better team. "Team". Yet with proper coaching it could've been a very interesting series.
For example, in game 4 I would've like to to see Draymond bring the ball up every offensive series with Steph playing off ball. It keeps Draymond involved in the way he is acustomed to and leave Steph free to move without the ball, his strength. Draymond could pick a defense apart with cutting players and they's never double him because he's not a scoring threat. When Steph would bring it up they would trap immediately forcing him to pick up his dribble and then what do you do? Kick it to Draymond for a jumper? Iggy. Livingston for 3? Oh yeah. HE DOESN'T SHOOT THEM!!!
TIME TO BRING BACK THE OBAMA CAGES!

People who gamble and cap as fans regurgirating news from local and espn outlets disgust me -- there is no game 6 and there is no game 7 -- THE TORONTO RAPTORS ARE 100PCT BETTER THAT THE WARRIORS -- AND WILL WIN IN 5 GAMES -- RESPECT THEM FINALY OR EAT DUST

If durant played from game one this series may have gone 6 at best or been a sweep -- kawhi still somehow underrated but the best player since kobe -- the disrespect for what the raptors have acvomplished here is dispicable

I agree with everything. In addition, had Thompson not gotten hurt, this series would be 2-2. In game 3, they were missing a healthy Thompson and lost, in game 4, they got Thompson back at 75% but had a tired Curry operating at 50%. I think after the whole back issue, Kerr decided to take it easy. His inability to manage his players' egos, basically the only thing he is now getting paid to do, tells you all you need to know about his influence on the team and his commitment to coaching. Did Rodman ever pull the kind of antics Draymond pulled the year they lost to the Cavs? Kerr has been riding the coattails of his stars since that playoff run. KD gave him cover for everything he was not doing as a coach, and he accepted it.

Quick question BB...why do you think this line is moving down towards the Dubs??
Because people are sheep...Again, it will take some big time help from the officiating or a massive choke by the Raptors to push this to a game 6. This Warrior team is a mess, beginning with the coach. It all starts with the leadership, and Kerr looks completely lost and overwhelmed (like his team) at the moment.

Interesting conversations in this thread. Enjoyable read.
My opinion is this:
If the Raptors close them out here it will have to be just like OKC over the Spurs in Game 6: 55-31 at the half (i.e., the game is over by halftime). If it is neck and neck, GS just has too much available and is too time-tested to lose this one. Which means this goes 7. We'll see. The halftime score will say it all.
