What are the reasons you gamble on sports?

There are sooo many people who gamble on sports. I&#x27;d like to know your reasons. Is it because of money issues? Or could it be just for the thrill and excitement with big money on the line?

I enjoy the challenge... Knowing so few people succeed at is motivation for me to try my hardest to become one of them.

It also gives me a great way to spend some time alone (capping the games), and makes the sports I already love watching even more enjoyable... For the most part. ;)

I myself play to win, make no mistake about it. That's why I don't bet every single day. And that's also why I wager very very large amounts on a few games a month.

That way even if I have a losing record for the month I usually come out ahead because I have a higher success rate with my "lock plays". I'll look at games weeks ahead, no joke, and circle them on my calendar. In college football I have actually circled games that were 2 months away! lol

But believe me when I tell you there are people out there that bet out of sheer boredom. I have a friend of mine who needs to have action every fking day. And he has to have it on the 1st game of the day. It doesn't matter if it's Army vs. Ball state. He's got a bet on the game guaranteed.

The worst part for him is that he bets way too many games and all for the same amounts. So inevitably he ends up losing every week.

&#xD;&#xA;Surely if you had money issues you wouldnt be wasting your money on gambling, but then again your a gambler so i suppose you would be, hahah.. I enjoy the thrill and excitement of winning, even when i lose it doesnt really get to me, i just enjoy the gamble! If you couldnt afford to lose lets say... $100, dont gamble it in the first place. LOVE IT LIVE IT LETS GET $$$$$$

There&#x27;s nothing wrong with using the same amount for every bet, in fact, it can save a lot of bad gamblers from losing too much. Most people over value their "locks" by quite a bit.You should check out the threads I&#x27;ve been making about money management lately... While using the same amount for each bet doesn&#x27;t hurt, betting too many games definitely does.

It adds a lot of interest to watching the games, and most importantly, I love the challenge of trying to "crack the code" of predicting player&#x27;s/team&#x27;s mental states and what makes them more amped up for certain games, and less excited about others, which amounts to me getting paid for my efforts in learning how the human mind works. A double win indeed!

I agree with all of this and I also have an ultimate goal of making some extra money, not relying on living off of it and I only use money that is expendable to me, other than a few times I have dipped into money I shouldn&#x27;t have in order to make a deposit. But for the most part I just love the action and the highs and lows of winning and losing and how it eats up any down time. I wish there were games on 24-7. lol. When I am at work I am always running into the bathroom on my phone to check scores and make more bets. I wish I had enough money to work with to TRY to make it a living.

When I am working I always wish I were at home so I could watch the games and scores constantly so I would know more of what's going on and so I can make halftime bets too. But I am a server at a restaurant/bar and can't make good money working day shifts. Anyone ever been to Primanti's in Pittsburgh? lol. Funny thing is yesterday I waited on a table of guys where they had ipads and were watching the Georgetown game takin bets over the phone and trackin scores. 2 were bookies and the other ones were just betting

I love to beat the books .... Thrilling of seeing underdogs upset the favors. Yeah fantasy of the little guy( underdogs = me)  beat up the big guy ( favors = books = Vegas)

gotta love the thrill of putting your hard earned money on trash teams who didn&#x27;t bother to get off the plane/bus, the 4th quarter melt downs, getting  by the hook multiple times in A DAY, the neanthethal who makes boneheaded technical  to change the game entirely to that awkward moment I ask myself "Why do I continue to torture myself to the bookies?" i like to cap games and thrill of playing game correctly. money part is a bonus. i was up 20 units befor asb and started betting hockey and gave all back. i have gone on vacations furnished houses with winnings. thats the best part having someone else fund ur lifestyle

Cause I like destroying relationships with great women, living off ramen and value menus, and putting my hard-earned $$$ in other people's hands!

I agree with posts above about doing research and the feeling of just "knowing", as well as the appreciation of filling down-time. I also play cheap parlays to pass more time.

it would be nice to make this hobby/habit/addiction into making a living but its tuff to crack 60-70% in all sports as a degenerate. The eye test is my greatest tool to capping, numbers don&#x27;t tell the whole story

i like it when the game is already over, but that one team has to go for a dunk or three or ANYTHING else but dribble it out...unless, i had the game bet that way, in which case the ball is dribbled out.

i like it even more when a jockey doesn't go to the stick, and/or uses his horse like a vehicle and cuts off another rider--to get himself DQ'd.
