Why have fouls / FT's increased in the playoffs?

The % of fouls and Fts have increased in the post season. Why do you think this is the case?

Teams aren't playing any differently, so why did the league make a conscious effort to send more players to the FT line?

Is it to boost scoring?

If you pay close attention, you will notice that if their is a drought in scoring, the referee will find a way to send someone to the line.

It's pretty simple.  Teams try harder on defense in the playoffs, leading to more fouls because teams are more physical.

Of course they play differently.  Do you watch regular season basketball?  It's a completely different game.

disagree so much papashango.....their is already 25 free throws 15 min In the game....almost every over has hit the playoffs due to it as it has not been enjoyable to watch as these games take almost 3 hours now which is quiet sad.

So teams were not playing hard defense during the regular season? Furthermore, if teams are trying on defense in the post season, and it is not clearly working, that is giving up a lot more FT's, why are they continuing with this strategy?

are you retarded? what kind of logic is this?

of course teams play much harder defense in the playoffs than in the the regular season. Regular season is a fcking exhibition league most of the time. Playoffs is where the real basketball starts. Everybody knows it and players will admit it

you might also think about a teams ability to get to the charity stripe and how that will help close out game...


read win more games, meaning they get into playoffs.

This doesn't make any sense at all.

If they are playing harder defense to not concede points, but is actually happening is, they are conceding more points because they are conceding FT's, then clearly playing harder defense is counter productive....

So why continue with it? Why not play the same defense you played during the reg season which means you will not give up more Fts?

So the games can drag on for nearly 3 boring hours so they can get in all the commercials they want.  The final 2 minutes of the Saturday night games lasted at least 25 minutes each (eastern conf. games, no OT)

What stats do you have to backup that they are conceding more points even though players are getting to the line more?  Where are those stats?

More overs have been hitting because so many of these games are going to overtime.  These games are not enjoyable?  This is the best first round in years.

Where do those stats equate to more points per team?  You showed me FTR, but not points per game rate.  And there have been well above average amount of OTs in these playoffs, which increases each game by at least 5 minutes.  Are those FTR per 48 minutes?  I doubt it.

There have been 7 games that went to OT already in the Playoffs.

Last year the 1st round only had 2 OT games.
