Incorrect.   It is a free kick.  You have the option of punting it or doing a kickoff.

They would had to onside kick without a tee, good luck with trying that kick with a holder. Regardless, Haubuagh over coached that last sequence by taking taking points off the board and making a two score game into a one score game.

A one score game that was over after a kneel down.

That's better than a two score game and possibly giving possession back to the Seahawks.

If Harbaugh accepts the penalty, there is a 99% chance san fran wins. If he declines, like he did, there is a 100% chance san fran wins. Simple as that.

i believe you have those flipped, his chances are higher with a 2 possession lead with 40 secs on the clock and 0 TO's for seattle.

a fumble in the kneel down while being down 7 would be more ideal then a onside recover/kneel down fumble recovery down 9 for seattle.

A 99% chance to win? What type of 1% did Seattle have to win? Seattle had no chance at all because they had no timeouts and the niners were up by 9 pts! How do you score twice with everything working against you?!

Even mike mayock was confused by the decision, how do you take points off the board? The game was over, yet Jim H continued to over coach the situation!

Ah, but Seattle WOULD have had a chance.  They recover a free kick, throw a bomb, recover another free kick, throw another bomb.

That's a chance.  Okay, granted, a small chance, but a chance.  You don't give the other team possession of the ball, if you don't have to. When you must free kick it, that's having possession.

There was no chance at all to win with a kneel down. 

Once again, smartest move I've seen a coach make in a long time.

A smart move? How do you make a smart move after you won a game? Don't you think that's over coaching?!

I would think that it would be easier to do an onside kick without a tee.  You can hold the ball however you want and have a lot more control over the bounce and the distance.

Jim H made conscience decision to take points off the board AFTER he had the game won.

People arguing with this decision just don't get it.  Anyone who thinks there's a chance to lose the game with a kneeldown b/c of a fumble isn't that bright.  you get possession of the ball, and the other team can do nothing to get it back.  Think of how many games around the NFL end with a kneel of some kind that aren't fumbled and go off without a hitch?  probably a dozen at least on a given week.  How many have been lost b/c of a fumble.  Harbaugh is a head coach of a billion dollar franchise in the NFL.  Any statistician will agree with the reasonable of us who know its better to always take the ball in the end than to give your opponent any opportunity to get the ball themselves.  Period.

Seattle would of been down 2 scores and never would of got the ball back 2 times to score with what 40 somthing seconds left on the clock.  9 pt lead is better than a 7 pt lead any day of the week!

They recover a kick than score and then recover another kick.  Not going to happen with 40 seconds thats just overthinking if your a coach if you want to know the truth.

Injury or no injury i think it sucked. But in all fairness it was a gift safety they said it was good block by seattle in the endzone.  So in acuality the penalty should never have been called.  Nothing I can do to get my money back!

It was definitely a safety because it was a high-low vs a defender.  After the penalty was called the whole Seattle team deflated like a balloon.  There was no need for coach Harbaugh over coach the way he did.
