What about the FACT he had control of the ball , 2 feet down, and elbow that wasn't holding the ball was down prior to the ball coming loose ? Down by contact ? No ? Why not? Cause he certainly caught the ball , had 2 feet down and made an aggressive lunge towards the end zone. If u think otherwise your part of the problem......awful awful call. Pay attention to everything not just the fact the ball moved when it hit the ground. Play should have been dead before that happening people. Cmon .....

I've said it before and I will say it again, as far as the NFL is concerned, "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!"

As for this specific call, I've seen it called both ways. I tend to lean toward the notion that the NFL is not always on the level, but this one could go either way. Just my opinion

It's about the play and what's right.....he was down by contact. The end....

I'm a Fan of dez but that is not down by contact. "You" are the problem thinking you are right yet you know so little about the game it's befuddling. Just stop betting it if you don't know about the game.

The rule is you have to EITHER:

Make a football move

Maintain possession through the catch and ground

He did neither.

Steps don't matter.

This is a total gray area. It give the officials lots of room for interpretation.

For instance, I would say that trying to reach out and score with the football is a football move.

it was a catch, if u like the 'rules' to a 'T' I suggest you all stop gambling...

as its ILLEGAL.

Yup Steps don't matter when u have possesion or your elbow being down while in possesion of the ball and diving for the end zone. Fantastic point....I stand corrected.

That's the rule. If you don't like the rule, that is one thing - but under the rule this was clearly not a catch unless you can determine he made a "football move".

As mentioned by numerous people: this is the only interpretation made by the officials. The original poster claims that 2 feet down and elbow down means down by contact and that is not correct. Down by contact for a receiver catching a pass, can only occur after a "football move" has been made. What don't you guys understand about the rule. If Dez had caught the ball in the end zone and not maintained possession through the ground it would have been an incomplete pass.

Not that he made a football move or not, because that wasn't in question I don't think. The big question is that this was a catch going to the ground, and he didn't go to the ground completely with control. No catch.

All Eagles fans are feeing a cense of satisfaction for losing to a lesser cowgirl team and for how dallas is always given these opportunities on a silver platter. Dead on. This whole thing a mess because of the events all happened at once. Dez going inhuman like over Cb catching ball, feet down( while refs looking at des saying wholly fuccck) he transferred ball then reached for goal. If a quick screen, catch reach with no defender refs mark it down. Fumble can't be advanced. This just a freak show play by the freak! Cow girls got screwed!

If you catch the ball in the air, you must come through and show full possession while going to the ground.

If you catch the ball with feet on the ground, the ground can not cause a fumble and down by contact would count.

A.R. 8.12 GOING TO THE GROUND—COMPLETE PASS
First-and-10-on B25. A1 throws a pass to A2 who controls the ball and gets one foot down before he is contacted by B1. He
goes to the ground as a result of the contact, gets his second foot down, and with the ball in his right arm, he braces himself at
the three-yard line with his left hand and simultaneously lunges forward toward the goal line. When he lands in the end zone,
the ball comes out.
Ruling: Touchdown Team A. Kickoff A35. The pass is complete. When the receiver hits the ground in the end zone, it is the
result of lunging forward after bracing himself at the three-yard line and is not part of the process of the catch. Since the ball
crossed the goal line, it is a touchdown. If the ball is short of the goal line, it is a catch, and A2 is down by contact.

A 3 yard lunge is a lot different than moving the ball 2 inches.
