They do use his skills. He has 120 attempts this year. Only 20 guys have that many. Jacobs has 186 but the next highest is Etienne with 159 and McCaffrey has 153.
But if you are a team playing with the lead and trying to run the clock out, etc. -- then you will get more carries. SF is playing better than BUF this year.
They do a good job of getting Cook involved. But you have to look at the team's offensive gameplays and how each game develops.
In the advanced metrics I look at, all of the statistics are pretty close with these two guys. Out of all of the guys with 120 or more carries they are very close.
The only thing that really stands out is the Designed Gap% where McCaffrey is 4th hitting at 72.5% and Cook is 18th only hitting at 52.5%.
Their WAR is very similar with McCaffrey at .2 and Cook at .1 --Henry leads with a WAR of .6 and no one else is above .3.
BUF offensive line blocking is also maybe even better than SF -- especially the rush blocking.
It is NOT that they cannot be effective with Cook running, they can; the issue is the QB play more than anything else.
That is far more key to an NFL's offense today than the running game.
I have never considered Allen elite and have written on this many times before. He is good and brings a special dynamic to the game and is fun to watch play. But he is not a crunch time player and does not look like he ever will be.
You can argue that the play calling or the OC is the problem. But I do not see it that way. Allen HAS to execute the game plan. The WRs also HAVE to make the catches and get separation.
They had plenty of chances last night but did not execute. That was not Dorsey's fault. They had chances to win the game.
The problem is the 'expectations' for Allen and, therefore, BUF are not realistic.
I fully expected them to finish 3rd in the division behind Miami/NYJ this year -- but that was before Rodgers got hurt.
The issue with BUF is NOT that they are not using Cook enough.
The issue is that with Allen you are going to win a lot of games and expect to win even more, BUT with Allen you are going to lose some games unexpectedly and then be surprised for some reason.
It is NOT the offense as much as it IS the expectations.
