C Alex Mack injury could have significant effect on the outcome of SBLI

A lot of newbies swinging the "hammer" around in here lately. Its like there was a bookie convention and now all you guys are coming into the covers party. Right BROWN?! My point is: WHAT IS YOUR POINT posting this? You are backing the patriots, correct? I could say Tom Bray MIGHT be emotionally unstable come sunday because of his sick parents..."something to watch but he'll play". Whats the point, right?

Brady has known about his mom's health issues all season. Hasn't affected him. You're comparing that to a physical injury sustained by a guy who is key in protecting Matt Ryan? An ankle/fibula injury for an offensive lineman is huge. They can shoot him up with anything they want, it won't magically heal his bone.

  This is a HUGE factor if  Mack is hampered with the injury..  Tough part is knowing how much he is effected.. 90 % healthy no biggie....  75 % well just may be a problem but not a game changer ... 50 %  now that is a HUGE issue for the Birds.. Just tough to call what degree it will be .If he is  exposed and has to come out and or  gets worse  health wise   then this will probably be a HUGE game changer and IMO will sink the Birds.. Worthy subject to probe for sure...

Thanks Brown for your post, it's a real injury issue for the Falcons as Mack is hands down their best player on the line.   He's obviously going to play but it'll effect him on rushing plays trying to block up field, IMO.  With NE having slow LB's not having Mack helping in the blocking schemes will benefit NE  when being asked to make  1-1 tackles.  GL buddy on the game.

As far as injury reports go, NFL teams must disclose injuries. Why? I guess some of you have never seen The Last Boyscout. It's for us gamblers. Didn't Broncos get in trouble for not Listing Manning in SB against Seahawks?

Falcons C Alex Mack (fibula) wasn't listed on the final injury report for Super Bowl LI against the Patriots.

Coach Dan Quinn expressed concern about Mack's fibula injury earlier this week but he's prepared to gut it out for the biggest game of his career. Mack earned PFF's highest run-blocking grade out of 37 qualified centers during the regular season. Mack, Dwight Freeney (calf) and Julio Jones (toe) were all limited at practice this week but none of them were on the Falcons' final injury report.

Freeney was back today after missing yesterday’s practice with a calf injury, and wide receiver Julio Jones (foot) and center Alex Mack (fibula) continue to be listed as limited as they’ve been all week.

The strangest thing about this injury is the coach discussing it so candidly. Maybe he figures everyone can see it, so why hide it. Or maybe he is confident in the backup and doesn't care who knows what. Anyway, you can be sure that the Pats will "test" his ankle. The center is the most important offensive lineman. Remember what happened to the Raiders that year when their center went AWOL before the SB?

If his injury was a real cause for concern, wouldn't the number have budged from -3? Zero line movement with all this being reported. Not particularly concerned but definitely interested to see how he looks pre-game.

A high ankle sprain takes 4-6 weeks to fully recover. If it is a broken bone or fractured fibula bone it's even longer.  He is going to play but he is going to be hampered severely.  Do you remember rob gronkowski against the Giants in the Super Bowl. He had a high ankle sprain and played but was a decoy because he couldn't push off or plant. The Giants realized he was only a decoy in the first quarter and adjusted the game plan. Mack is a warrior but people who think a shot will make it 100 percent couldn't be more wrong. He is the key to the offensive line, last year without him they gave up the most sacks in the league. He calls out all the protections and the pats shift their line a lot and Mack needs to be in for that. This is a huge issue for the Falcons

One source said that if this were the regular season, Mack could miss six to eight weeks, but he will be out there Sunday, with concern running high among Atlanta officials.

The Falcons are confident Mack will hold up in pass-blocking, but they are uncertain if he will be effective on downfield blocks, or if his leg will hold up.

This is a real concern. I hope he can hold up - hard to tell. I am sure Belicheat will exploit his weakness.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, it's "uncertain how well or long" Falcons C Alex Mack will play in Super Bowl LI against the Patriots.
Mack is reportedly dealing with a chip fracture in his left fibula but wasn't listed on Atlanta's final injury report. Under normal circumstances, this injury would sideline Mack for 6-8 weeks. It's anyone guess how Mack will hold up and concern is reportedly "running high among Atlanta officials." Mack will gut it out with the help of a pain-killing injection but if the injury ends up being too much for him, we could see Ben Garland fill in at center. Feb 5 - 8:13 AM

That is because he is the center. One of five linemen. How many points is he worth? To the public and 90% of bettors it matters nothing. But to anyone who knows anything about football, it is all about the o-line, and the center is very important. I am certain the Falcons have a contingency plan and the backup is ready just in case. But still, this is not good news.

If Mack goes out mid game this will def shift the momentum of the game. He is one of the best centers this year (PFF grade 89) and he helps mask the weakest link RT Ryan Schraeder (PFF grade 54)on the off line. If he goes out this will be a disaster

I still don't get what this coach is up to (from a psychological point of view) Why does he keep yapping about this?.

1) Is he trying to make the Pats relax?
2) Is he trying to take some pressure off his team?
3) Is he giving his team an excuse to lose?
4) Or is he just an idiot who does not know how a coach should handle something like this in the media?
