Reno, Nevada is a Niners town. Even after an insanely troublesome offseason which featured coaching changes, stunning retirements, and the release of one of their best defensive players, the San Francisco 49ers are still drawing action in Reno for Monday’s Week 1 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.
At least since the early 1980's the Niners have been a west coast favorite. They come to lay down their money on their team. Good for Reno, not so good for the Niner faithful last year and from the way it looks this year looks like it might be a train wreck. We could see the wheels starting to fall off the chuckwagon by mid-season last year.
I suspect part of the reason why Harbaugh decided to leave was because he realized that Kaepernick didn't have the cerebral capacity to be a successful long term NFL quarterback. For the first year and a half he was able to execute the strength of his game which is read and run and the first read was there more often than not. But once the book was out on him he was unable to adjust to their adjustment, which was to take away his first read. He has all the physical tools to perform well following the script. But if you take away the script, it seems he can't follow through on his progression, from first to second to third read.
Being a Niner fan going on fifty years, I hope I'm wrong. This season will be the crossroad for Kaepernick. Like many of the run option QB's we've seen in the last two decades they have early success but once they've been figured out or get injured they don't last.

Very interesting post......I've had my suspicions it could have been an issue with the QB and the coach. As well, everyone you read about Harbaugh is that he is a very difficult person to deal with.....if you're winning then that is ok...but if you don't, it gives those in charge an excuse to jettison them.
I got the Vikings tonight, but have been worries b/c it has seemed like no one has liked the 49ers. Nice to know they still have some backing.
Good luck this year.

Kaepernick is an enigma..........he's certainly not a guy you can count on to lead a comeback, but he shows moments of brilliance amongst the shiit. The 9ers are kind of stuck with him now.

This is a quote from two weeks ago. I really hope these teams start realizing that these dual threat read option athletes in college are not necessarily the way to go in

Niners need to run the pro formation style offense like they did with Joe Montana have two blockers in the backfield considering how terrible the offensive line is.. then either one of the blockers could break off which would most likely be a tight end for a quick out...
It's not just Colin it's the Oline watch the tape it will show you that he's on the run from the snap but he makes bad decisions on top of that pressure .. You've seen what he can do when his Oline gives him enough time to throw..
Niners need to draft corners and Oline
Winning isn’t everything.. It’s the Only thing.

This is an entirely new franchise if you look at every team roster and look at how many players were left from 2012,2010,2008 teams.. there are only 6 teams that have entire line ups from players left from their 2012 lineups most teams have less than 20..the average team has 16 players left from 2012..6.6 from 2010 and 2.9 from 2008..
2013 class can only get better for this franchise..Niners have lost too much talent to hang with the good teams now ..basically the young players need to step up and have LARGE shoes to fill...
Cincy,Seattle,Greenbay have kept their roster together the most Seattle just had a really good draft class in 2011&2012.. resigning players has kept these teams roster continuity ..
3 of the 6 teams have made the playoffs in each of the last 3 seasons..
Denver & patriots have also made 3 straight appearances and have 20 or more players returning from 2012 class.. Only team that didn't have roster continuity is colts but have made the playoffs..Peyton manning luck era...
Teams that have not had roster continuity ..
Chicago
>coaches and players
Buccaneers
Oakland
Jacksonville
49ers too many quality players left all at once in offseason ..
One key point here: successful teams have better players and try to keep them around as long as possible..They were a good team and can still be but it will be tough on defense with young players.. on the other side it will be tough considering the Offensive line is not playing well and this is key for the Niners to succeed and be a good team on offense which is the reason they picked up T. Smith as a deep threat ..kaep needs more time in the pocket for players to be able to break away on there routes.. They need to play pro formation style offense 2 blockers in the back with kaep giving him time to throw..
Good teams:
New England
Seattle
Greenbay
Denver
Dallas & Cincy
These teams are in the top 10 in wins/and players remaining since 2012..
Bad teams:
Jacksonville
Oakland
Buccaneers
Tennessee
Cleveland
Are in the bottom 10 in both categories
Some teams have faired well with roster turnover and have been among the good teams such as 49ers Indy Baltimore ..
(Minnesota & Rams have continuity in roster but it hasn't payed off yet)
Winning isn’t everything.. It’s the Only thing.

Yeah, I wonder if Jim Harbaugh was working with a (young) Tom Brady or Peyton Manning or even Andrew Luck, instead of Kaepernick, would that be enough for him to have stayed with the Niners?
