Eagles -6
Daniels has been awesome but the big upset last week will be his last. It's not that surprising at all that the Lions lost that game. They are the LIONS! A perennial failure. With a trash pass defense.
Last week there were a ton of people saying the Rams could upset Philly. I said it would be a lot different facing the Eagles #1 rated pass defense than Minnesota's who was ranked 29th. Detroit's was actually even worse, 31st ranked and riddled with injuries that piled up over the season.
Similar situation here they go from playing 31st pass D to 1st. And 1st overall in ppg and yards per game. If the rookie can go in and do it in Philly I'll say hats off to him. But I don't see it, not on your 4th straight road game and playing a team and QB that has been in this position before and advanced.
The Rams defense and the 7 sacks plus Hurts getting gimpy kept the Eagles from pulling away. The Rams pass rush became lethal towards the end of the season they got 9 vs Minnesota. Washington's defense hasn't done well vs Philadelphia.
The Lions and Eagles were the best teams in the NFC by a good margin and unfortunately for the Lions they just didn't have a defense and Goff made mistakes like he does at times have those meltdown games. Philly hasn't turned it over in 3 games and when you can run teams over you can avoid those turnovers a lot.
Daniels as many have said, hasn't looked like a rookie. And Washington has always been a tricky team for the Eagles even when they aren't good they usually manage a split with them, as they did this year. It won't be a cakewalk but the game Washington won they had 5 giveaways, they basically played bad vs them twice and got lucky once - in the game the Eagles were missing Jalen Hurts.
In the Eagles win with Hurts playing they absolutely obliterated Washington yardage wise, it was nearly 2 to 1, 434 to 264. That's not a typo, almost 200 yards more. Yet they were losing going into the 4th somehow. Even tho they didn't have any turnovers? Bizarre. They ended up winning by 8.
In the game they lost, they were up 21-7 after the first. Ended up losing on the last play of the game, but yardage was pretty even. Kenny Pickett was in at QB and after a hot start he began to struggle.
With Hurts back I think they will play closer to the other game, and hopefully without the red zone miscues or missed kicks or whatever caused them not to crush a team they had such a yardage disparity in. Barkley ran for 228 yards on them that game. He even had 150 in the game they lost, when you know Washington was keying on him majorly with Pickett in at QB. Still dunno how they won with 5 turnovers but I guess the answer is Jaylen Daniels.
Tbh both those games look bizarre when you look at the stat sheets. And something bizarre could happen today. But the team that can just keep it simple and hand off and that has the best defense, less travel, more experience in playoffs is always a solid pick for me in a game like this. I remember when McNabb was a phenom and it took 5 title games to get to the SB. Daniels is probably better than him but wont get there 1st try.
I hate to go against him because he looks like the next otherworldly QB to come along, like a football version of Jimi Hendrix who can do magical things nobody else can. Just like Mahomes can do those crazy things. But even Mahomes took a while to breach his way into the Super Bowl.
It has happened before where a team comes out of nowhere to win it all, in fact before the Brady and Mahomes dynasties a lot of SB winning teams had losing records the year before. But the Eagles are strong in every position and beat the Ravens pretty easily who Washington couldn't beat. They are masters at extending drives and will frustrate the rookie into mistakes like they did in the Pickett game, while running all over them like they did both games.
