It's no secret the Dolphins/Jets game ticked me off. It's all right to vent about a loss but as long as it doesn't carry over for more than a day. I went back to work because that's what winning sports gamblers do and bet Chelsea -1 over Tottenham and under 126 in college basketball Temple/St. Joseph's yesterday. What do you know? 2-0 day. But do you know the greatest thing about this hobby or business to some? Whether you had a winning day or losing day, you have to move on. You can't cry over spilled milk or brag about a winning day because simply put, it's just a waste of energy. Use that energy to handicap future games. That's what I do and that's what I did for this Thursday night game between the Cowboys and Bears.
History has proven the Chicago Bears have the Dallas Cowboys number. Dallas got their butts kicked in Chicago 45-28 last season and the year before at home, 34-18. I believe they lost 27-20 at home back in 2010 as well.
Why will tonight be different, you ask?
Because the Cowboys are ticked. The embarrassment at home on Thanksgiving at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles in front of the world has left a bad taste in the mouths of every single Cowboys player. You can try to make the same case for Chicago(they got beat down by Detroit) but Chicago isn't as desperate because they know they have no shot to win the division and no shot to make the playoffs. You want to know why? The Chicago Bears have a non-existent defense. No matter what the stats and rankings say, their defense is one of the worst in the NFL.
Physical teams cause this Bears defense problems. It doesn't get any more physical than these Dallas Cowboys. DT Jeremiah Ratliff is questionable for Chicago tonight but it appears likely he won't be able to go because of knee problems. Everybody already knows LB Lance Briggs is DONE for the year. S Chris Conte is questionable tonight but in our gambling world, it really doesn't matter who lines up back there because Conte is that bad and his replacement if he isn't able to go would be a rookie named Brock Vereen, who isn't any better. What else is alarming is the work load their best cornerback(Kyle Fuller) had to deal with.. He covers the opponents best WR week in and week out ever since Tillman went out and he's at wit's end. On Thanksgiving he had to cover Megatron and tonight he'll have to man up on Dez Bryant. He can't do it anymore. I don't blame him fully. Injuries, fatigue, weak safety help are all part of the problem. In 3 years, this guy will be able to shut down stud receivers. That's one great thing Chicago has going for them on defense.
To make matters worse, on offense Bears WR Alshon Jeffery is having big time hamstring problems. I'm not sure if he'll play but if history is any indicator, he will. But even if he does, it remains to been seen how many snaps he can actually go. One interesting tid bit, their great kicker Robbie Gould will be out tonight. Punter Pat O'Donnell has been putting in work this week and will kick tonight. As we saw on Monday night, field goals can be the difference..
I believe this game means way more to the Dallas Cowboys than the Chicago Bears. I understand Miami was in the same position on Monday night as Dallas is now but Tony Romo is 10 times the QB Ryan Tannehill is with 10 times the weapons. RB DeMarco Murray will have his way tonight in Chicago which will open up some big plays for Bryant, Witten and others. If this becomes a shootout, you can bet your last dollar Chicago won't be able to hang.
35 degrees tonight isn't the coldest. It could have been a lot worst tonight but at 35, it's doable for Dallas. Expect a big bounce game by Dallas because frankly, this Chicago defense won't be able to slow them down.
Dallas Cowboys -3.5 -110 (you can try to hold off for -3 but I doubt you'll get it)
I might risk Cowboys -190 in a fun parlay but that's about it.
Added prop bet: Dallas team total over 27.5 -120
