With Tony Romo again playing like a Pro Bowler, the Dallas Cowboys have established one of the top offenses in the league.Rex Grossman and the Chicago Bears offense are stumbling, but the team's vaunted defense looks as stingy as ever. The Cowboys look to continue their impressive start when they visit Chicago on Sunday night in an early matchup of two of the NFC's top teams. After defeating the New York Giants 45-35 in its season opener, Dallas beat Miami 37-20 last Sunday. The Cowboys (2-0) lead the league with 82 points, their highest total after two games since 1971 (91).They have gained the fourth-most yards in the league (830) and have won their first two games for the first time since 1999, when they started 3-0 but finished 8-8."You can't crown us champions right now," safety Ken Hamlin said. "It's only the second week of the season."Romo has been a big reason for Dallas' fast start, showing no ill-effects from the bobbled snap that cost the Cowboys a chance for a playoff victory last season in Seattle.Romo leads the NFC with a 119.3 quarterback rating, throwing for 531 yards with six touchdowns and one interception. He's been sacked twice and has turned seven runs into 47 yards and a touchdown."He made some scrambles that you don't see many people make, Brett Favre-ish," first-year coach Wade Phillips said. "He made some really outstanding plays and he's still looking downfield all the time. That's what really amazes me about him. A lot of guys, they can get away from people at times but they don't see what's going on. He sees receivers."Just as he did last year when he took over as the starter in mid-season and ended up making the Pro Bowl, Romo has a good chemistry going with Terrell Owens. The brash wideout had five receptions for 97 yards and a TD against the Dolphins, and leads the team with eight catches for 184 yards and three scores.Marion Barber has been powering the Cowboys' ground game, rushing for 154 yards and three TDs on 25 attempts after leading the NFC with 14 rushing touchdowns last year. He could start taking carries away from Julius Jones, who was held to 32 yards on 15 attempts last week.Neither of Dallas' first two wins came against teams which had winning records last season, leaving this contest as easily its biggest test to date. The defending NFC champion Bears (1-1) have allowed the fourth-fewest points in the league (24) and the fifth-fewest yards (544).They defeated Kansas City 20-10 in their home opener last Sunday for their 13th win in 15 regular-season games at Soldier Field, holding 12 of those opponents to 10 or fewer points.Chicago's rush defense has proven to be especially tough, shutting down the league's top two rushers from last season. The Bears held the Chiefs' Larry Johnson to 55 yards on 16 attempts after limiting reigning league MVP LaDainian Tomlinson to 25 yards on 17 carries in their season-opening 14-3 loss at San Diego. While the Bears defense again ranks among the best in the league, the offense has gained the third-fewest yards (441) and has scored the fourth-fewest points (16).Grossman was 20-of-34 for 160 yards and a touchdown against Kansas City, but was intercepted twice. The highly criticized quarterback has three INTs and a fumble, as the Bears have turned the ball over seven times - tied with Detroit for most in the league. This could lead to problems against the Cowboys defense, which is tied with Minnesota for the league lead with five interceptions."I don't think you make any calls based on what you've done after two games," Chicago coach Lovie Smith said. "I think you need to go into the first quarter (of the season) a little bit. I think from the first to the second game, hopefully, you can see some improvement then. It doesn't always work that way. We are taking steps. ... I say give us a little more time. Hopefully, it'll be this week."Chicago's best scoring threat has been returner Devin Hester, who had a 73-yard punt return for a touchdown last week and set up a field goal with another long return.Hester, who also had a 95-yard touchdown return negated by a holding penalty, now has seven touchdown returns in his 18-game career and is one shy of Gayle Sayers' team record.Cedric Benson showed some improvement, carrying 24 times for 101 yards against the Chiefs after being held to 42 yards on 19 attempts at San Diego. He has gained 210 yards on 37 carries in his last two home games."We're just not there," Smith said. "It's still early in the year. We made progress offensively this past week, getting our running game going. The next phase will be to bring the passing game along."The Cowboys and Bears have not met since Thanksgiving Day 2004, as Jones ran for 150 yards and two TDs on 33 attempts in Dallas' 21-7 victory. These teams have alternated wins in their last five meetings, but Chicago has won the last three matchups at Soldier Field.

Gross play means Chicago doesn't payBy ASHTON GREWAL - Writer September 21, 2007
It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.
That was the story for Rex Grossman and the Chicago Bears last year. At times, Grossman looked like the quarterback Chicago had been longing for since Jim McMahon left.
Though Grossman had seven games with a quarterback rating above 100, it’s fair to say the Bears made it to Super Bowl XLII in spite of Grossman, not because of him.
For every impressive outing, the Florida alumni followed with a God-awful game. Coach Lovie Smith has stuck by Grossman through thick and thin, but there are signs his patience is waning.
“The turnovers are something we have to eliminate. It’s as simple as that,” Smith told reporters after Grossman threw two second-half interceptions Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. “Passing game-wise, we didn’t get a lot done (last Sunday). And we have to eliminate the turnovers in order for us to go to that next step.”
Does that mean tossing Grossman to the bench?
“I don’t think you make calls based on what you’ve done after two games,” Smith said. “You need to go into the first quarter (of the season) a little bit.”
The first half of Grossman’s four-week trial hasn’t gone well. He owns 55.1 QB rating and he’s personally responsible for four of the team’s seven turnovers.
“Thank God we’ve got a great defense to bail me out,” the embattled signal caller told reporters after his second-half mistakes gave the Chiefs a chance to chip away at a 17-0 deficit.
Smith and general manager Jerry Angelo have been slow to yank Grossman because of his natural abilities. There’s no questioning he’s the most talented quarterback on Chicago’s roster. He throws a beautiful deep ball and he can get out of the pocket and scramble for the occasional first down.
But he doesn’t know when to take a chance downfield and when to dump it off to his check-down receivers. His indecisiveness leads to sacks and regularly stalls offensive drives.
“Rex is naturally an aggressive person, and we’re trying hard as coaches not to take away that aggressiveness,” offensive coordinator Ron Turner told the Chicago Sun Times. “But there is a time to be aggressive and a time not to be. There’s a matter of finding that balance. I want Rex to take his shots when they present themselves. We’re going to give him opportunities to take his shots.”
The Bears don’t need a gunslinger. They need a game manager. Third string QB Kyle Orton guided the club to a 10-5 record (9-5-1 ATS) during the 2005 campaign. Chicago can win games with its defense and special teams as long as the quarterback isn’t playing erratically.
It’s not like this is any big secret. Fans have been screaming for Brian Griese since the veteran showed up last season.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb recently made comments suggesting the media was hard on him because of his race. He couldn’t deny that Grossman has shouldered more blame than any other NFL quarterback.
“Yeah, I was criticized a little bit,” McNabb said. “(More) than Rex Grossman? I don’t think anybody, especially me, was criticized that much.”
McNabb should have added that Grossman’s scrutiny was warranted.
Grossman will have a good chance to improve his season stats tonight against the Dallas Cowboys in front of a national stage.
Dallas’ secondary is missing the presence of cornerback Terence Newman and the team is allowing almost 300 passing yards a game. So, Chicago’s best chance of scoring points will probably be through the air.
The books have the Bears as 3-point home favorites and Smith indicated NFL fans should be optimistic about the defending NFC champs.
“If I was a betting man, I’d say that we’ll take a big step. And we need to take a big step, as much as anything.”
I am a betting man and I’m betting against the Bears as long as Grossman is behind the center.

Posted: 09/21/2007 Romo vs. Bears 'D' highlights key matchups By Gil Brandt | NFL.com
Here are some key matchups to follow when you're watching the Week 3 action in the NFL:
Bears defense/special teams vs. Cowboys offense
In their last three regular-season games played in Chicago, Dallas has scored a total of just 25 points. In the two games this season, however, Dallas leads the NFL with 82 points and ranks fourth in total offense. The Bears, meanwhile, have allowed 24 total points and rank fifth in total defense.
Dallas will have hard time running the ball here, so they have to beat the Bears through the air. To do so, they'll need to protect QB Tony Romo against the Bears' front four and blitzers -- Chicago blitzes more than you think. Romo will look to exploit the two safeties, Adam Archuleta and Danieal Manning - the latter is a second-year player and the former is in his first season with the Bears. Up front, the Cowboys need to block DE Tommie Harris on the inside. Harris is a native Texan who will probably have a little extra motivation here. DT Mark Anderson has 13 sacks in 18 games for the Bears.
Chicago ranks 30th in total offense and has scored just 23 points in two games -- the only offensive TD has come on a 2-yard pass to a backup offensive tackle.

Texas native Tommie Harris will be pumped to take on the Dallas offense.
To stop Devin Hester in the return game, Dallas can do any of these three things: punt out of bounds, kickoff to the sidelines (and hope ball doesn't go out of bounds), or sky the ball to force a fair catch and prevent a big return.
The Cowboys will most likely change the makeup of their roster for this game by going short on one position, maybe offensive or defensive line, in order to get the best special teams players active. Keep I mind that it's not just Hester they are facing here: Bears special teams coach Dave Toub is very good, and kicker Robbie Gould led the NFL in scoring last year with 143 points.

Personally I think Romo and the Cowboys have a big game here tonight. I think the troubles of Grossman and Chicago's scoring issues will continue right on. I see Chicago having some turnover issues in this game and I feel like they are just a beat-up ballclub right now. I see no problem with Dallas winning this game SU so the given points should just be icing on the cake.
My play is:
Dallas Cowboys +3
Good Luck tonight to all my Cowboy backers!!!

I too belive the Bears are a bit beat up on D and Grossman will have his traditional game. A couple picks and a fumble... Look for TO to be HUGE again tonight but the secret to the game will be Jason Witten!!! Go Cowboys.... 28-17
