If a contact sport comes down to players wearing numbers and talking to referees, it sounds a lot more like a dog talk and fashion show.
70 reported as eligible and lined up as a tackle. 68 did not report. That’s what the ref said but this is what happened.
70 was eligible on previous plays. 68 tells ref he his eligible. While he is saying this you can see the ref looking at 70 while he is running on the field so he think 70 is eligible even though 68 lines up as a TE and 70 lines up as a tackle. Basically the ref made a mistake. But also I think Campbell should’ve said something before the play. He’s going for 2 to win the game with an eligible lineman he should make sure everything is all set.

not only that, but #70 lined up at Guard which makes him ineligible right off the bat. There is zero reason #70 Dan Skipper ran out there and reported eligible when he was lining up at Guard.
Just watching the tape, the ref almost seems like he's trying to run away from Decker when Decker goes over to tell him and he's looking at Skipper running onto the field. It's possible he was looking at Skipper's #70 as Decker was informing him that he was eligible and just got the numbers mixed up. A player can't report for another player in case anyone is wondering (like Decker can't go to the ref and report that #70 Skipper is eligible).

only thing i can think of is that he was trying to create confusion on the Dallas side as to who is reporting as eligible....The ref reports to the defense which player has announced themselves as eligible. That's why you see the ref run over to the Dallas players and move his hands up and down his shirt, which is the sign for an 'ineligible' numbered player (like an o-lineman) reporting as eligible.
Sewell (#58) may have just been chatting with the ref or possibly was trying to pretend he was the eligible guy, who knows....but like i said the ref's job is to report which player has declared themselves 'eligible' to the defense.
Dan Campbell said in the press conference that the ref told him 2 players tried to report as eligible and that only 1 player could do that, but to my knowledge both end men on the LOS can do that, even if they're OT , they just can't be 'covered up' by a receiver
This whole thing is starting to develop more layers than the Kennedy assasination lol
