Dan Marino needed only 564 attempts to compile a single season record 5,084 yard passing in 1984. Drew Brees has thrown 19 more passes before kick off tonight. Yes, e will still have the record and yes it will be a great achievement. But, like any great record comes a debate. Like the All-Time home run record in MLB. The Babe needed less games than Maris and Mantle to get 62.
So, it's only fair to wonder what Marino would have had with say--another 60-80 attempts, well since Dan the Man averaged a ridiculous 9 yards per pass which is so Tecmo bowl good. He would have had another 540 yards at with 60 attempts.
My all time Marino game was hanging 38 on those 85 Bears and their big bad defense.
Brees will break Marino's passing record...but he is no Marino, and that is a fact.

If it's fewer games, than yes, there can be a debate. If both played exact same number of games, 16, then you're a complete moron and should be banned.

I agree if Marino had more attempts he would have alot more yardage but he didn't. I think Danny had better receivers then Drew when he did it but the thing thats most impressive to me is he did it in his 2nd year in the league.

what alot of people who try and compare the old to the new never understand or just dnt want to admit is that, back then there was not 20 DE who ran 4.6 40s or 20 LB that were 6'3 250, ...the old will never compare to the new in any sport, the technology in sports training, nutrition, food, weights, etc...it cant compare. i know all you old schoolers wnt ever be able to admit it but its the truth. there is always gnna be someone better than the last guy. period point blank!

The league caters to passing, when Marino played you get your head knocked off with no flags and the illegal contact box rules were not even a thought.
I never stated if I think Marino is better because I thought that went without saying. Brees isn't even in the same galaxy as Dan Marino in NFL Lore.
I just was making a point that he had more chances to break it which is true--he threw more passes than Marino.

yes and the reason he didnt get to face them in the superbowl was because he laid an egg in the championship game at home
