Yeah I disagree also..If you want to play Monday Morning Quarterback, they should have kicked it deep, but I would kick it onsides everytime there in that situation if I was coaching..I look at it this way..
Kick it onsides and you have a shot at posession and the chance to tie or take the lead. If you do not recover the kick, the other team is not going to try a FG in that situation so your job as a defense is to force them to punt from where they get the ball..They might pin you inside the 20 but your only looking at a 10 or 15 yard difference if you decide to kick it deep and force the other team to punt..You give your team more chances to win IMO

absolutely not. you needed to stop a first down from happening. it didn't matter what part of the field. at least with the on side kick, they had a CHANCE of getting the ball. If the would have kicked it deep, and the Jets made a first down, game over.

Agreed. The onside kick had the ball bounce of the Jets chest. Chargers had a nice shot of recovery.

I understand though what wonwiththehook is trying reason..If the exact same situation happened at the Jets own 30, and it was 4th and 1, the Jets would be punting and SD would have a minute left to go down and either tie or win the game...But it is impossible to know what would have happened had they kicked the ball deep, and you can't say SD would have stopped them..Shit for all anyone knows, NY could have ran the kickoff back past midfield and this topic would be non existent

first off all , here is my 2 pesos worth, I just honestly think Norv just lost faith in his defence to get the ball back, plain and simple;
SO he took a chance to get the ball back and shorten the field.
He lost!....Norv has not done to good with Marty,s team. one more thing, they knew what the Jets had and what they will do, and were out coach, and I also think they got caught looking ahead.
Now they are looking ahead for next year....Norve needs to go back to a O C.

SD lost this game in the first half when they dominated play..They had chance after chance to score early and often but penalties cost them dearly..I am a big fan of putting teams away as early as possible. You let an inferior team like the Jets hang around and their tenacity and mindset will end up going against you..
Just like the Dallas game this afternoon..Opening drive Dallas is moving right down the field..they get to a 4th and 1 on the edge of FG distance and they decide to kick it..I feel they should have went for it and tried to score a TD on the opening possession instead of settling for 3..That game could have ended up much different because Dallas was on early and could not sustain it once Minny gained control...

true. i get what you are saying. however, the only way he goes for it on the charges 30 is if it's 4th and very short, which is what ended up happening. It worked out bad, but I think the decision was right at the time.
