So apparently it’s supposed to be heavy winds (20-30mph) with a strong chance of rain for most of this game. Makes this game much more interesting... kinda looking towards Jalen Hurts and the Birds +9 now. Am I crazy?

Not sure where you're getting that info. Locally, understand the game is still 4 days away, I live here, rain prior to game time but nothing crazy precipitation wise and wind may gust to 20+ mph, for here nothing crazy, meaning steady winds around 15 mph, believe me if that's a correct forecast, it will have zero bearing on the game. But again, still 4 days away. I'll follow up this weekend as I will probably be doing a write-up on the game.

Accuweather has thunderstorms and 30MPH winds.
Agree with everything you say. 4 days away - who knows - but cant be good for TB12 if it is thunderstorms and 30MPH.
We shall see - and something everyone should watch for.

@mrusso
Yeah so a report by one of the beat writers came out this morning about it and then the total got bombed down from 49 to 46. Of course things can change between now and Sunday but it looks like we will be in for an ugly weather game

Based on my experience living in the Bay area, 20 years, and following Local weather reports, Baynews9, ABC action weather, they're always pretty accurate, I just don't think it will be that bad, most of the rain cleared out by gametime, no big deal, and the winds being reported steady at no worse than 15-20 mph. I wouldn't run to my bookie and play the under because someone may have overreacted to sum weather report, that's not local. That's just my opinion but again I'll chime in Saturday with a likely write-up and update.

It’s a tough game but any type of bad weather you can argue benefits both teams. Cuz Brady has played in every weather condition imaginable and the Eagles are built on their o line and running game. They key will be how much does Jalen Hurts run in this game cuz his legs will be needed to move the sticks

Tom has played how many games in his career? How many times in Foxboro, Buffalo, Meadowlands...
And this weather or wind will be a detriment more to him than Hurts?
Not to be a jag, but maybe I'm ignorant here. Can someone explain it to me please?

I am with the sac. Tampa Bay is 3rd vs the run. In a game where Jalen Hurts will need to pass successfully for the Eagles to even stay in this game, why are we focusing on Brady in bad conditions??

@undermysac
And that was my 2nd thought, Brady in less than perfect weather, is that really a genuine concern? Hmm...

Bruce Arians just now, " so there might be sum wind and rain on Sunday? I'm pretty sure Tom has played in alot worse."
Denis Phillips, ABC action weather,
"There will be rain and wind on Sunday, game day, still 4 days away, we'll have a pretty good idea tomorrow in regards to the game."
And probably a better idea on Friday and Saturday. He's the most trusted source of weather in Tampa Bay.

Has Jalen Hurts been in any bad wind games with Alabama or OU? If so it can't be many. And never this time of year.
I understand the sediment that Philly is a great running team, therefore they will have the upper hand in a ground battle because of windy conditions. A contrarian counter point would be that if the Bucs know that Philly will run often, wouldn't they just load the box? And when it's time to throw on 3rd n long, well Philly's drive is all ready over.
Last time I checked, TB has Vita Vea and Ndamukang Suh on the interior. On the other side, Jason Kelce is a genuine bad ass.
Just some thoughts to ponder.

definitely my whole thinking coming into the game was can Jalen hurts make the big plays on 3rd down and 7 against this defense. The other side of it of course is his legs which will be essential in this game

Philly needs to run regardless of weather conditions, and I still say it won't be that bad. Bucs return on defense, Shaquil Barrett, JPP, and the heart of their defense just activated today, Lavonte David, who hadn't played in nearly a month. Hurt may get yards scrambling but ground and pound against this defense? Ain't happening. Also Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones are both back, and they're a solid running tandem. Advantage Bucs. I've seen Brady throw in 20+ mph winds, he throws that nice tight spiral and still with plenty of velocity, much like a golfer hitting a low, boring 4 iron that cuts through the wind. And Brady's a pretty good golfer, he understands the concept. It's playoff time and there's no better leader in the playoffs than Tom Brady.

Ok, today's weather update, Denis Phillips, ABC action news, Tampa, FL.
It will rain hard for about an hour and half and he believes that will be in the morning, sorry tailgaters. Any rain after that, light at the worst. The field has an excellent drainage system as you would expect here in Florida.
The wind, steady 15-20 mph, gusts up to 25. Believe me, if that's accurate, not a big deal at all. I'll update again tomorrow but forecast looking better today as he believes this front is moving fairly quickly.

I've been to Raymond James only once, about 5 years ago. If I remembered correctly, the field is pretty well protected from the wind by design, as most are(to an extent). What direction is the wind coming from? If it's coming off of the bay I'd assume that's worse, but I really don't know.
Have you been there for any bad wind? I can't recall any such games, nor anyone ever talking about it.

I have been to a handful of games there and the wind has never been an issue. Remember, we're right off the Gulf, there's always a little wind, 12-15 mph is probably about average here, we're used it. I even play basketball in the wind at the parks here. I really don't foresee any wind issues but again still 3 days away.

@snakebite44
Hurts can’t throw completions without wind. Tampa will Stack the box and force Hurts to try to throw. Then they’ll drop into coverage and pick him off. Hurts over 1.5 interceptions.

If the weather really is bad then I would lean towards taking the points, though I wouldn't base that off Philly being a run team (though that helps) because as noted Brady had played in all types of weather so that cancels things out. And TB while not as good this year was last season the top run d and is getting some defensive guys back too.
Bad weather with a big spread you should always look at the dog because the weather really negates a lot of athletic advantages like speed and games become a grind and tend to stay close without many big plays.
If you follow horse racing it's after a lot of rain that the most talented and fasted horses will get upset because the rain blunts their speed.
Only problem is the line has already fallen to 7.5 and it was like 9 when it opened. So the spread isn't as fat and juicy any more
Also when looking at the wild card round we have 3 games where the QB is going on the road for their first playoff game ever vs a more experienced QB and i just dont like that spot. Plus TB offense is gonna be hard to keep up with just running the ball. And the Eagles have one of the most toothless pass rushes in the league as well. TB12 has been one of the least sacked QBs all year too.
IMO the weather would need to be a straight up monsoon for the Philly defense not to get picked apart. And it you watched Hurts play in college I wouldn't be too confident on him doing well in a wet windy game. He used to fumble all the time without even getting hit.

Today's update, ABC action news, Tampa-
Looking good, front moving quickly as predicted, heavy rains in the morning but only a 30% chance of spotty light rain during the game. Winds, steady 15-20 mph, gusts to 25+. This will not affect the passing game whatsoever. It's possible a gust hits a 50 yd pass at it's apex, but unlikely, as gusts are truly intermittent. You live somewhere long enough, you get the feel for it as I've been saying, weather won't be an issue. Bad weather is off the table folks, let's get ready to rumble!
