Ghost of Kyle Williams and Dre Greenlaw fluke injury

I watched the Super Bowl last night without placing a wager for the first time in over a decade. Was in fact leaning SF 49ers but held back mainly because of the franchise history of unprecedented bad luck and misfortunes during big games. 

Any Niner fan knows and dreads the name “Kyle Williams” . Well his ghost showed up at the end of the 3rd quarter after the 49ers forced a struggling KC offense to punt the football. The football grazed the leg of a 49er defender in Kyle Williams fashion and suddenly KC had the ball inside the Niners 20 yard line. Result? Easy TD. 

Dre Greenlaw held Kelce to 2 yards receiving in the 1H. The odds of Greenlaw blowing out his Achilles while attempting to run onto the field from the sidelines in the Super Bowl, no less, .005% chance? as fate would have it, Greenlaw’s backup (Oren Burks) Burks was targeted 9 times for 9 completions, 1 TD and a 135% passer rating when targeted. Kelce was Kelce again.

In the annals of SB history, you’ll never read or hear about these two occurrences but they were both needed for KC to win the SB. Often it’s only those who have sold their soul to the devil that benefit from such events.

The 49ers strike me as a group of good hard working guys. Good guys rarely win in this world. Rarely, there are outliers but few and far between.

I didn’t even mention the following:

McCaffrey who fumbled 3 times in the last 20 games played, decided to hold the ball very loosely and high, fumbled in the first series of the SB as the Niners were methodically driving. 

Trent Williams HOF LT, chose the SB to play his worst game of the season. 2 false starts and a holding penalty took points off the board. 

Deebo Samuel also got injured and wasn’t effective at all.

I’m not the betting man I once was but I would take the 49ers win total under next season and also have them missing the playoffs. Not because they don’t believe they can win the SB, it’s the type of misfortunes they routinely endure during crucial moments of big games that will cause doubt and shock in their mindset.

The better team did not win the SB last night. No one will convince me of that.

Moody’s missed extra point also would’ve forced KC to score a TD late instead of tying the game with a FG instead.

good post.  mahomes gets all the credit for the win, but he was lousy up until that injury to greenlaw.   Its very similiar to brady in how the other teams have miscues or injuries at key points that allow them to win.   Chiefs got miami in 0 degrees, then bills had injuries to so many key defensive players, vs balty harbaugh decides to not run when that is his teams strength, then all the points you made just in the sb.  Chiefs are champs but they aren't as good as past chiefs teams.  much like some of the patriots teams that won.  It seems like the universe or destiny rigs it for them, when they play good they win, when they don't the other team messes up worse and they still win.

49ers bad luck has been going on for awhile now  I believe patrick willis suffered an injury during the nfc title game that helped 49ers lose to seattle like 10 years ago.

McCaffery was not holding the ball loosely. He had it stripped by a 300 lbs man. Pacheco had his ball out loosely when he fumbled because he runs so wild, flailing his arms. MacCaffery does not. 

HOF Trent Jones for run over by the best DL in the game today, Chris Jones. Him holding Karloftis is what allowed Purdy to have time to score. It’s like you don’t understand why and how holding penalties are called, only when it directly affects the play. 

The Chiefs have the best D in the NFL and that is led by the best Secondary in the league. Debo is a running back and not that great of a route runner. Those DB’s made play after play and in the NFL, a team must pass to win today. 

But yeah, it must be so hard to be a bunch of 1%er millionaires who never really win anything in life. I feel so bad for them.

 Achilles injuries are all flukey, and at the same time, nonw of them are. They almost always come in weird, non-contact scenarios but they never come out of no where. They are always signs. "Calf strains" are often the achilles. In the case of Mr. Greenlaw, he literally sat out a recent game with tendinitis in his achilles. He should not have even been playing. He should not had been playing in the Packer game, in which he had two picks, nor the  Lion game. He and the team gambled with his body and crapped out. His livelihood is now in jeopardy only to come in second place. The Warriors gambled with KD in rhe Raptor series and crapped out as well. KD turned around and signed a 200+ million dollar guaranteed contract. That’s the NBA. Dre Greenlaw will get a nag of chips. I pray for him. I pray his injury is like KD's, where the tendon popped in the middle but stayed connected to the bone. They simply stitched it back together. If it ripped at the bone or at the muscle, if he needs a cadaver tendon, his career good be over.

 San Francisco is a shithole? I see you have never been to Kansas City. I haven't looked at last year's numbers specifically but I know from history that Kansas City has like 3-4 times more homicides than SF, a city close to twice as large.
