just an ugly game all around
How many did he need? 3.25? It's not an exact science like the FOX lines and Joe Buck think it is.
My guess in that situation is 8 yards to get it under 50. If he ran like everyone thinks he gets about 3 and their trying from 55. But, Longwell over 50 to win it when he's 12 of 17 in postseason is hardly money at age 38 or whatever.

Late in regulation, I agree that Minnyhaha settling for a long field goal attempt was a loser's mentality. Also, if Favre tried to run to get a first down, he probably would've tripped over his own feet before going into the hooker slide as his "pants were on the ground."

Exactly 100%.
And BTW - how about the clock mgmt during this?
It was 1st down at the 32 with 1.06 left, and the vikes had 2 (maybe 1) timeouts left!!
They run up the middle, and let 40 secs go off the clock - just saying "we will take our chances on a 50 yarder thank you very much..."
Just so stupid.

That thought crossed my mind as well. . . I couldn't believe the two straight pound it run formations. . . IMO, that was just about the ONLY thing they could have done incorrectly after gashing the Saints defense on the previous plays, and damned if they didn't do it twice in a row.
I don't even disagree with running the ball a little bit, but they lined up like they were on the 20 and only wanted a couple extra yards

Something I never expected even Brett to do"
This statement is fucking right on........its unacceptable for a vetran qb to make that pass given that situation....1st off he should have ran and hook slide...thats a no brainer anyone in that situation doesn't gamble on that throw....that is a rookie mistake....unacceptable for a qb to not know how many yards he needs....all this talk of he didn't know where he was cause he got hit so many times..idiots...he just marched the team down into FG range and didn't get hit on the last drive so his ability to know where he was is proven....unacceptable mistake that favre made....12 men in the huddle was fucking wow, but brett didn't have to throw to give minny a chance at a long fg to win...
That throw should seal favre's career....Mcnabb in minny anyone????

Shit like this is just mind-boggling...I had to suffer through ECU running the ball once they got to the 25 in the Liberty Bowl, RIGHT after their bum kicker missed a chip shot the previous possession...setting him up to miss another chip shot at the end of regulation. Cost me a bunch of money.
Then, today, I have to watch a new group of purple and gold fucks do the same thing, when there's fucking eight in the box and all it takes is about 10 more yards to get you into comfortable FG range.
You seriously fucking think Ryan Longwell is going to make a 50-yarder in the Superdome at the end of the regulation with the Super Bowl on the line? Are you fucking kidding me? PLAY TO WIN THE GAME.
The Saints are sitting there just waiting to shut down the run, and the Vikes play right into their hands. Then, in OT, the Saints show them how you're supposed to do it - when they're on the 35, they throw the ball on 2nd down and get it down inside the 25.
It's just painful to watch such pathetic play-calling at such a high level of football. Oh yeah - it wasn't much better watching Favre throwing the ball across the field when he could've scrambled down to the 30, either.

Line, thanks for reminding about my ECU moneyline. I had finally gotten over it until I stumbled upon this.

Yeah Vegas made that call. Why do you think the Saints smacked Brett around all game. It was so he wouldn't make that hero run an anytime. Not even good old Brett wanted to take one more open field hit or they may have had to carry him away in a basket.

Its a shame four fumbles from teammates, a twelfth man on the field because of a coaching error, made winnng this game virtually impossible. Farve almost overcame all this aversity, but the flip of a coin sealed his fate, maybe forever, without his never getting a chance to touch the ball. Isn't it time to steal a page out of the college game and have that overtime rule make a decisive outcome in a game or does 60 Minutes need to aired in its entireity?.
