So far I found New Orleans 2010 SB winner finished 8-8 in 2009 . Atlanta 8-8 plays in South Division as well ...hmmmm...Both teams finished 3-1 vs AFC .....2010 N.O. and 2017 Atlanta Anyone else??

At the top of my head, there have been 4 since 1995

Saints were 8-8 in 2008 then won the Superbowl the next season

NY Giants were 8-8 in 2006 then won the Superbowl the next season

Patriots were 5-11 in 2000 then won the Superbowl the next season

Rams were 4-12 in 1998 then won the Superbowl the next season

There have also been 6 teams since 1995 that have made the Superbowl after finishing 500 or less, but ended up losing. This includes the 2015 Panthers, 2008 Cardinals, 2005 Seahawks, 2003 Panthers, 1998 Falcons, and the 1996 Patriots

Totally forgot about the 2000 Superbowl2000 Ravens won the Superbowl despite after finishing 8-8 in 19992000 Giants made and lost the Superbowl after finishing 7-9 in 1999

I think the only other team to WIN the Superbowl after going 500 or worse the previous season are the 1981 49ers..went 6-10 in 1980

A good sign for Atlanta is that 4/6 teams that won the SB that had a .500 or below record the previous had a Completion Rating above 63.4 ...Atl Comp rating this year is a remarkable 69.6..with an Interception ration of an unreal 1.3 !!!

I would like to Compare that completion rating and interception ratio to previous SB winners to see what we find ??

Bad sign for Atlanta in which many will say does not matter I'm guessing , but nonetheless I spotted it , so I will mention it here ....

All 6 Teams that had a .500 record or below the year before they won the Super Bowl , that in the ACTUAL YEAR THEY WON THE SUPER BOWL ....they all had a plus in Fumble Recovery ....

Now many of you probably won't think much of that stat which is cool ...I understand ... just throwing it out there ...

2000 Balt + 23
2001 NE + 17
2007 Giants + 8
Even the Lowly saints Def in 2009 + 14

This Year Atlanta is a - 19 in Fumble recovery !!! Wow !

Something to consider: Interestingly, the team with fewer road wins than the opposing team are 12-1 ATS in the Superbowl. The only loss was the Raiders in 2003 (and you can put an asterisk with that because Gruden knew what every play was going to be)
