I know the people saying to bet smaller amounts, set limits etc mean well, but it's the wrong advice.
It's like telling an alcoholic to just drink beer, or only have 3 drinks. It doesn't work that way for some, they open the floodgates and get carried away.
This man doesn't see any point in betting smaller amounts now. Even 500 seems small to him because he lost 15k and is sick about it and is desperate to get it back. And he can't seem to understand that the way he lost it is by betting on a stupid game with stupid refs and stupid coaches played with a ball that is oddly shaped and bounces funny.
The NFL is ridiculous now. Everything is a penalty. Kickers cant kick. Coaches will run the ball on 4th and 9 and then not run it once on 1st and goal from the 5.
The Bears sent extra picks to go up one spot and take this kid Trubisky despite the fact SF had no interest in taking him and they could have got him at 3. And he's no better than Gardner Minshew who got picked in the 6th round.
This game makes less and less sense all the time and wagers on it are never sure things. I enjoy trying to pick games but betting thousands is lunacy. Unfortunately guys have this fantasy of being a "pro". Come on. look how many games come down to the last possession for spread purposes. Unless these pros are able to isolate the few ones that dont, they are betting on coin flips like everyone else.
I went 4-2 on Saturday, the 2 losers outgained their opponent by over 100 yarda, one lost SU, the other by a half point because a kid tried to make a running sliding catch on a short punt up 13 points. Yesterday I went 2-3, the 3 losers all won straight up and didnt cover, and one of the winners was the friggin Jets on their 3rd string QB (dont ask me why i picked them i just thought one of the big favs wouldnt cover)
Ive been at this 20 years and the biggest thing I've learned is that I don't really know anything. Ive had sure winners turn to losers and sure losers turn to winners. Just a few days ago had Tulane, miracle win, but so what? The next Saturday I get a ridiculous bad beat on Texas.
I digress.
Bottom line is, this guy is determined to bet the Bears large tonight. We all know how chasing on MNF tends to work out but there's no point talking to this dude. Even if he lays lays off or bets small, if the Bears win he's just going to be more frustrated that he didn't make the big bet. And then, convinced his luck has changed, he'll bet it all on Thursday night.
Get the hell out of AC man, now. At least get out of the casino. I used to play there. One night I lost 500 (a lot for me at the time) on a bad poker beat (house over house) and went for a walk. I still had a couple hundred in my pocket. You see a lot of down on their luck folks around there, homeless people, addicts, probably a lot of them former gamblers. It struck me that despite my loss, I was still better off than all these people, I still had some money, a job, people that cared about me, and I decided rather than waste any more on cards I would give some to the homeless. I didnt even care if they bought drugs with it or gambled it. Then I filled my car up with gas and drove home, and only play little piddly home games and pub tournaments since.
Take that 15k and do something else with it. Anything else. Give it to someone else to hold until football season is over. Right now you're in the hypnotic trance of the addicted gambler and on autopilot you're going to lose it all if you dont quit right this second.
