Get the 3rd seed and play the Commanders and then travel to Philadelphia if you win or get the 4th seed and play the loser of Vikes v lions and then play the winner of Vikes v Lions if you win the first game?
Tough choices. With the Rams being an indoor team you’d think they would prefer scenario 2, especially as they have played both the Vikings and Lions and have held their own against both teams on the fast track. Going to Philly and playing outdoors against those monsters doesn’t look appetizing but beating a flawed Washington team at home does. So maybe it’s a wash except that you can rest your starters if you go with scenario 2. And you will have a slight advantage over the team that loses the Sunday night slugfest for the NFC north as they will be a bit demoralized.

Rams coach Sean McVay said resting starters in Week 18 is “probably the direction that we’ll go.” He explicitly mentioned Jimmy Garoppolo and Blake Corum playing.
I took the Seattle ML and will parlay it with something. I hope my hunch is right and the Rams really want the 4th seed, which gives them the loser of Vikings v Lions coming in to face a rested Rams team after losing the #1 seed. My God, how demoralizing. In essence, the loser of the Vikings and Lions will be playing a second playoff game against the Rams and will have to go through the gauntlet of winning 4 playoff games (counting Sunday night) just to get to the SB!

Ok. Good luck with that bet. Even McVay is taking the day off:
Interestingly, McVay didn’t commit to even being the play caller in Sunday’s game against the Seahawks. He said the team is working through that decision as it prepares for Seattle, and it’s possible offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur will be calling the plays on that side of the ball.
“If this does provide an opportunity to not necessarily take a step back, but be a little bit more immersed in the total product of the team, while also watching Mike be able to lead in his own way, those are things I always want to be able to think about if I think that’s what’s best for the team. That might be a direction we go.”

Yes, but Rams have already played and game planned for both teams this year and one of those teams will be coming off a demoralizing, hard fought loss, and the Rams get to play indoors instead of playing in frigid Philadelphia (a team that destroyed them earlier in the year) in the dead of winter, and they get to rest key players and go into the playoffs at full health.

There's no doubt that the Vikings and Lions will wage war on Sunday night. Both teams had hard games in week 17 as well. It's ridiculous that two 14-2 teams have to be going this hard in the last week of the season. But I guess I'd rather face a rookie qb in Daniels, then take my chances vs Hurts who isn't 100%
And yet with all that motivation, the line moved from Seattle -3 to -5.5.

Don’t ever worry about the game after next. Do what is best to win the first home game. Too many Lou Pinella’s walking around thinking about the next game before winning the current game. It doesn’t work like that. Philly might lose their first game. Don’t worry about playing Philly in the division round. Beat the team in front of you. Simple

They could get GB if Washington loses, and just last week everyone thought they were better than the Vikings.

“The first thing is it’s an opportunity for us to go get to 10 wins and that’s important right now,’’ Macdonald said. “There’s a standard here of what we’re trying to establish and show off our football character of what type of team we are, what type of people we are, and how we’re going to play.”
A few players have some incentives or statistical markers they’d like to reach.
Quarterback Geno Smith can still earn three $2 million escalators in his contract. All are based on bettering his 2022 stats. Smith will get $2 million if the Seahawks finish with a 10 win, and get $2 million each if he gets 4,282 passing yards (he’s 185 away) and finishes with a completion percentage better than 69.75% (he’s at 70.23%).
Those would be added to a $10 million roster bonus he is due to receive on March 20. Those escalators would also increase his salary cap hit for 2025 to $44.5 million, and it’s been assumed Smith and the team are likely to work out an extension before that date. Hitting the marks would give Smith a little more bargaining power.
Second-year receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba needs to just five receptions to pass Tyler Lockett’s single-season team record of 100 set in 2020, while Leonard Williams needs just one sack to become the first Seahawk since Frank Clark in 2018 to get 10 or more (Clark had 13).
It may not be what the Seahawks hoped to play for this weekend. But Macdonald hopes it’s enough.
“It’s not an optimum condition on how you’re going to play, but us as a football team and an organization, we have a really high standard about how we want to play,’’ he said. “That’s what we’re chasing. Our football character, hopefully, gets shown to the world about what we’re about and how we operate, and let’s go be those guys that we’ve been the whole season.”

Great thread!!! If I were the Rams decision maker, I would rest my starters this week and opt to play indoors versus the winner of the Vikings @ Lions. The loser of that epic game might be caught flat footed after the defeat. The Eagles at home outdoors, in that zoo madhouse are formidable IMO.
Tomlin has a choice too of playing his starters (many of whom are walking wounded including TJ Watt and Joey Porter jnr) to beat red-hot Cincy (still in playoff contention) which would win them a trip to Texas to face the reeling Houston Texans as their first opponent or instead resting starters and having to face the Baltimore Ravens on the road who are peaking.
Apparently, Tomlin is opting for going all out and playing his starters but after Baltimore blows out the Browns locking up the division in the early game Saturday, Iron Mike might change his mind. I am not so sure that Pittsburgh can beat the Bengals if they do play their starters. That Pittsburgh D and O are on life support or so it seems to me. Of course looks are deceiving.

Is this all that you've got? Taking shots at people all of the time? Where are your picks???
Too bad the psych techs at the mental hospital allow you access to the computers. Of course it is the holiday season and they do have a heart, you don't though.
How are those anger management meetings coming along? In spite of all, I wish you the best in your recovery. A life is a terrible thing to waste.

This is a tricky week, buddy. We are all just making educated guesses on motivational angles. The only teams I am willing to put my money on thus far are the Lions, Tampa, and Seattle. Vikes are obviously also motivated but I think Detroit’s experience of losing last year in the conference title game gives them that extra edge. Winning on Sunday gives them a great shot at getting to the SB, whereas losing is almost a certain death knell.

The problem is: can you trust Seattle giving 5 or more on the road? What is Seattle's motivation to go on the road and get an ez win in a meaningless game? It's a game in which I see no good reason to take either side. Maybe Jimmy G will want to play well in hopes of getting a better gig next year. Sure Seattle COULD win by 7+ but count me as one who doesn't trust them one iota

I did after I posted :) I still think 5.5 is steep, but Rams have had many games this year where they only scored in the teens with their A offense, so scoring 14 here could be difficult, but I still have questions with Seattle's "willingness" to win by margin. Sure they could get Metcalf his incentives, Geno his incentives and still win 17-13. Truly, good luck. I hope u cash with Hawks. I will be on the sidelines but paying attention.
