The only propose this question because NFL honors will be this Feb 9, 2023. I noticed we haven't had a Regular season MVP win the Super Bowl since 1999 (Kurt Warner). Patrick Mahomes is on track to win the regular season MVP for the 2022 regular season. (Odds Mahomes for MVP -750)
What yall think about this stat?

I think I just posed this same question in another thread where a poster pointed out MVP Patrick and winning the SB..... I was thinking Warner, thanks for confirmation

It's an interesting stat. Same goes for Heisman winners and National Champions. I think coincidence but not a reason Id wager for or against the team. I base my bet on who wears white uniforms...

Obviously, I'm not going to base my pick solely on this trend but it's hard to ignore boys. Going to wait for the final injury report before pulling the trigger on a side especially monitoring those KC players:
- JuJu Smith-Schuster
- Kadarius Toney
- L'Jarius Sneed
- Mecole Harman (IR - Probably won't play in the SB)
GL on your pick Boys!

Hardman officially in IR. I believe the 2 weeks downtime should be enough for the other 3 to suit up no way they miss this very important game Mahomes should be close to 90% and should be a little bit more mobile!
Sip on that plus money honey!

Mahomes is -750 favorite and the SB has nothing to do with the regular season mvp.... How is Hurts gonna win the league MVP that is announced 2/9 when the SB is played the 12th...

So you think that the announcement will come on Feb 9, and if Mahomes wins, he will play differently on Feb 12 because of this trend? When you actually think these things out - they start to fall apart.
This "trend" since '99 usually hasn't even involved the MVP playing in the big game. Yes, the announcement is always prior to the Super Bowl but 7 league MVP's have made the SB since '99 and Warner is only one to have won.
'17 Brady '15 Cam '09 Peyton '07 Brady '02 Gannon '01 Warner '99 Warner
*Interesting note of these losers; all of them had a dvoa SOS worse than their opponent, with the exception of '02 Gannon (which, did not matter because Gruden knew the play calls from his former team). Not saying definite correlation, just looking at interesting comparisons...

You forgot to add Matt Ryan who was the 2016 MVP and lost in the famous 28-3 Superbowl..

Dirty Birds SOS was actually better than Pats that year....same team that finished #32 in SOS but #1 overall dvoa. Interesting outlier that 2016 Pats team

You can also add Shaun Alexander to the list of regular season MVP'S to lose in the Superbowl as well..He was the MVP in 2005 for Seattle and I believe was the last single season rushing leader to make the Superbowl...The Seahawks would lose to the Steelers in the Superbowl..

Was only looking at QBs but thank you
Speaking of single season rushing leaders.... Mr. Emmitt Smith was last and only to win rushing title, regular season MVP and Super Bowl MVP
