Nice you are doing a mock contest ... but one comment. When you are willing to pony up the $1500 And play for real, it probably going to be different. You might find that in the beginning you think too much or over-anayze picks :-)) .. I think like most things in life there is a learning curve. When you settle in and pick as if you are playing for nothing you start to do better. Not saying this will definitely happen with you but i bet it does with most people.

footballsmart, thanks for the feedback! Yeah, no doubt about it....
I know once I pull the trigger on the 1500 plus the 300 for the proxy my mindset will turn into "extreme overthinking it mode". I just wanted to do a dry run to make sure I could possibly compete somewhat and to justify it to myself as a good decision to play next year. Haha!
My plan for next year is to hopefully enter the contest and focus solely on those 5 picks each week. I will attempt to NOT wager on any other games or wager any money outside of the 1500 dollar investment for the contest. That way, if I don't cash, I'm only down the 1500 for the contest. Then each week I'm only interested in those 5 games and not dedicating any other time and energy to other random games...
What approach do some of you guys take when playing the contest? Do you focus solely on your contest picks each week? Do you make other wagers as well as your contest picks? Just trying to mentally prepare myself the best I can for next season. Thanks all.

You should definitely play next year AD. It is indeed very fun and keeps us non football players who love football feeling like we are in the game still :-) ... as far as trying it out first on a mock level, there is really nothing to wait for. You will never really re-create the same feelings unless you do have some skin in the game. So you will really not practice what you need to learn until you join officially ... so get in next year! As far as a strategy, it all depends on your budget. If money is an issue, then forget about other avenues and focus on the contest. Don't overthink. Build a system if you can (but trust me it takes years to do it right and also some serious statistical savvy to avoid a ton of typical mistakes). Most of all .. have fun, see it as a marathon rather than a sprint, and don't overthink your picks! Good Luck!!!
