Hitting in the Head

  • Hitting a quarterback in the head is always a foul, even if he is in possession of the ball. Defensive players must get to the quarterback and hit him below the helmet to avoid penalty and record a sack. A blow to the head can be as simple as a slap and as violent as full helmet-to-helmet contact, but both are penalized the same--15 yards.

    still a bigtime bullshit call!!!!! the guy who hit him in the head was already falling downwards on that play. that was an accidental slap to the back of the head. must be good to be nfl - manning royalty. i wonder if that guy is going to be fined. if so he shoulda punched manning in the badk of the head instead and make the most out of it.

    Lemme Repaste The RULE JUST TO CLARIFY WHAT CAUSED THE PENALTY AS LAME AS IT IS IT'S THE RULE

    Sorry nutt, I wouldn't even goes as far as saying that was a slap.  Like I said in another thread, if they actually go by the print of the rule, this call would be made multiple times in every game every week.  Incidental hand resting is not a penalty!

    It Was A Touch To The Head. I Thought It Was A Bad Call Hell I Didn't Even Know Touchin The Helmet Was A Penalty. I Got Lukky On That Call. I Was On INDY. Thank U REFS FOR FIXING THE GAME IN MY FAVOR

    So it's these guys' fault for making the right call because other refs fucked up by not calling it?

    if that's the rule, word for word, you cant argue it. 

    Its like driving at 100mph and a cop doesnt write you a ticket. and you do it again, and this time get a ticket.

    Deegen I Agree If The Refs In Other Games Don't Call It Then They Need To Read Up On The Rules. A Rule Is A Rule And If Broken They Are Consequences.

    That's kinda my whole point!  It's a subjective call for the working rule regardless of the print rule.  Agreed, refs are struggling with consistency.

      This call is a no brainer,it was a flag,the bogus call was on the collie hit,NFL just said no fine for the legal hit,which would of meant eagles get a td,and take one away from the colts.!!!!!!!

    One perspective I haven't read on here is this:  What if the call hadn't of been made?  What if there was no flag on the play?  Do you think then that people here on covers or nfl "experts" would now be saying, "omg!! how can you NOT call that?!!"  Of course not.  Therefore, lame call.

    So those of us who lost $$ because of the call should be allowed to commiserate for a day.  Now that we've done that, let's move on..

    And the speed limit is 35 on the highway by my house... I see cars going 45 all the time and not get pulled over... It's called judgement, and that ref either doesn't have any or wanted to have influence on the game.

    Does anyone believe if the game was in Indy or Pitt and the opposing qb got contacted like that they would receive a bailout on 4th and 18? I highly doubt it.
